Q:Which tile will work?
Why soak them? All normal tiles have a glazing on them and the glaze finish can be different to test the different stuff you want to test on them. You have bright glaze , matte glaze satin glaze. Some stone tiles with no glaze on them at all that might stain . Some stones you can seal w/a sealer to see how that works. Go to your local mom and pop type flooring store and tell them this is a school project and ask if they have any spare tile to give you. We helped many school projects over the years . Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar. GL
Q:How to restore hazy patches in porcelain floor tile?
Glazed porcelain or a true porcelain? If it is a glazed porcelain ( my guess) and you have spots that are un glazed, this is a manufacture defect and the tile (s) will have to be replaced. If this is just a grout haze there are cleaning methods you can do to get the grout ff. But other than that, there is nothing you can do other than replace tiles. If you bought the tiles at a regular flooring store, the manager or sales rep from that tile maker should be sent out to inspect it. With out knowing more its hard to say what else you can do. Any questions you cn e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:removing rug and installing tile?
Yes you can do it yourself. But you'll need a lot of guidance. Probably too much to give you here. Is it on concrete? If so, you'll have less problems. If it's on wood, you'll have to tear up the first layer of the subfloor and lay down backerboard (hardibacker). There are two types. Use the 1/4 inch. The 1/2 inch is for walls. You'll need thin set, tile cutters, maybe tile nippers. Grout and a float. Then you'll probably have to replace the base boards. Are the base boards real wood or pressed wood? Pressed wood doesn't hold up very well in moist areas. I suggest real wood. Then don't forget to paint them with a mold resistant paint. Oh yes, don't forget to remove the toilet. You will want the partial tiles to end in a corner of the room that is the least obvious. You will have to do a dry lay to determine how to lay down the full tiles in the best way. (Dry lay is explained in the how to do it books.) I suggest you get a book on how to lay tiles. Also go down to Lowe's or Home Depot and go to their classes. Since each instructor lays tile differently, go to several of their classes and ask a lot of questions. There are many different tiles. Some are natural stone (marbel, travertine, granite). Some are man-made (ceramic). Some are cheap, some are expensive. But more importantly some are very smooth and slippery while others offer a little more traction. (With that said I layed down marble-very slippery in my bathrooms and kitchen simply because it looked so good!) Do your research before you begin your project. Think it out and ask a lot of questions to people that have done this. Laying the tile is easy. But it does take some basic knowledge. Good luck!!
Q:crackling sound under my cermamic tiles?
Hi there, in my opinion to improve, restore, and maintain the appearance of your ceramic tile you have to use the Tenax product because it is designed specifically for treated materials because 2 month before I have got the same problem so I search on a net for ceramic tile I got one which better than the other ceramic tile companies I call them and purchase Tenax product for my ceramic tile when I use it you really don’t believe the sound of crackling in my tile didn’t come by using of Tenax product so from my point of view I prefer the Tenax product so If you were interested visit the website which is given below.
Q:how do i get black grout stains off of white tile???
Dilute clorox bleach into a spray bottle (3 part water to 1` part bleach) and spray it on the grout. Wait 5 minutes and rinse. Cheap and effective.
Q:Accept the quality of tiles to pay attention to what?
On the stickers of the brick vertical and horizontal lines are straight, wrong paste the wrong degree of brick to be consistent; flatness is better, brick angle can not have high and low gap, can not have empty paste; cement mortar shall not overflow the length of 1 / Brick angle and edge line shall not leave stains, imprints, scars; reserved water and electricity mouth to the edge of the neat, fixed water pipe interface protruding brick surface height reasonable; residual corner more than reasonable.
Q:Tiles Around Electrical Outlets?
To the edge of the box. You will need to bring the outlet out (by loosening the screws) a little bit, so you can get the plate back on.
Q:Where best to start a tiling job?
I've seen it done both ways. But I prefer to do the walls first. That way what ever mess is on the floor can be cleaned up easily and it is not on the new floor tiles
Q:fixing bathroom tile grout/underlayment?
Just get some flexible caulk and cut your tip thin. Apply it and then cram it down it the area between tub and tile then apply bead of caulking and let dry for 24 hours.
Q:just grouted tile how to remove haze?
Remove standard grout haze, any time now with a dry rag. I prefer an old towel or hand towel. More stubborn haze or a rougher textured tile I prefer a white nylon pad. Sold most any where tile and tile supplies are sold. Buff using the nylon pad. Do this also dry. By doing it wet with water or a vinegar/water solution you reintroduce grout onto the tile by using the dirty water. You ll have to do it more to get the haze off. Don t seal grout until all haze is removed or the sealer will be sucked into the haze and that gets sealed onto the tile. use a penetrating sealer 3 days after tile was grouted. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
