Q:My wife sent me to pick up some used floor tile. It still has the stuff (plaster? grout? whatever?) on the back of the tile. Can this be reused? Do I have to get the old stuff off? It is on there pretty uniformly.
We lay ceramic tile for a living and yes you can reuse that tile...bad new is that the stuff on the back is thinset and it must be removed and then new be reapplied to set the tile on your floor
Q:Hi Folks,Currently I have a bath tub with a vinyl shower surround. I‘m considering removing the shower surround and replacing it with tile.I‘m just wondering how big of a job this is? I‘ve never tiled before but consider myself handy and have done plenty around the house.Of note, I don‘t believe proper backboard is underneath the surround so I‘d have to put that up also. I‘ve put drywall up in the past so I think that part should be ok.So...is this a do it yourself job? Or is this something that needs to be hired out for. Seems like it should be simple, but maybe I‘m missing something and it gets complicated or difficult to make come out nice? Also, how long should this take if I did it myself (days and hours per day) and how long before I can start using the shower again. Thanks!
As long as you don't remove the shower pan, you should be okay. Don't assume that the corner of your wall is plumb. Do a dry fit at the bottom to see that you don't have tiny slivers of tile to cut in the corners. You want to tile from the bottom up and the outside in. That way, any cut tiles are on the inside corners. Be absolutely certain that you start out plumb and square, or the job will always look lop-sided. Lowe's and Home Depot offer classes on how to lay tile, it might be a good idea to attend one so you'll know exactly what you're doing.
Q:Tile loss rate
Number of Wall Brick 800 tiles Square number * 1.6 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss) 600 tiles Square number * 2.78 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss) Toilet kitchen ground Specifications: 300 * 300 square number * 11 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss) Bathroom kitchen wall tiles Specifications: 300 * 450 square number * 7.4 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss) Specifications: 300 * 600 square number * 5.5 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss) Specifications: 250 * 330 square number * 12 + 1 ~ 2 = quantity (plus loss Waistline Specifications: 30 * 30 weeks long * 3.3 * 5.5 = quantity (plus loss) This is a more accurate calculation of the loss of the way, in general, are sufficient, and after completion should be some remaining, but not absolute, to take into account your home irregular zone, if more, the more the loss, the carpenter can not Hundred percent to you count, so would rather buy more and more to buy, buy more can also be in accordance with the original price back, and less to buy a brick with no color is a very careless thing, so the loss to More consideration, a wall of the last left a bag, 2 packets are reasonable. Finally, buy tiles to introduce you to buy Hui million, excellent quality, remember to give me the best evaluation of Kazakhstan.
Q:I would like to glue it to the tile that is already there, except remove a few that are coming loose.
Sure you can lay linoleum over the tile, but instead of removing the loose tile I suggest you glue them back. Liquid Nails will do the job. By all means ware a mask while working with the asbestos tile. Be careful about what type linoleum you buy because it can have some asbestos in it, but not at a hazardous amount. Go to the web page below its very informative. Ever who you get the linoleum from make sure you tell them what you are applying it to. Be sure to ask about what type of notched trowel to use and the mystic. If there are large seams between the tile make sure you get enough mystic down into them so you want see their indention's when the mystic drys and shrinks. To really be safe cover over the tile with 1/4 or 3/8 inch ply then put your linoleum down.
Q:We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place? What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
Your refrigerator should have an adjustment at the front, just lower your frige push back at the top of frige, and put some blocking back far enough so you can set your tile. Make sure the tile is far enough under the frige. Lay your tile, and grout. Then push back the frige, remove the blocks, and adjust your wheels as needed.
Q:I have thinset my slate tiles in place, and washed any thin set off as best as I can with water. I can‘t seem to get some of the thinset marks off, how important is this? Also, how long should I let the tiles dry before I can seal them? (I want to seal before grouting). One last thing, my sealer product says to grout 2 hours after sealing? This seems fast...will the sealer be dry enough?
Ideally you could have sealed your slate before setting (as long as you kept the sealer off the edges of the tiles). This would have made thinset and grout clean-up much easier. You really need to get all the thinset off your tiles. At this point you might need some hot water, a scrungy pad and some elbow grease. If that doesn't do it then you'll need to use a cleaning solution - maybe they have something where you bought the slate (make sure it's safe for natural stone). So after the tiles are thinset free, you can seal - again only the tops of the tile. If sealer gets down the sides your grout will not grab hold as well. Apply enough sealer to coat, but avoid puddling. You can grout after 2 hrs - but you can wait longer if you like. I would seal your grout after it dries as well. Hope this helped... Rich
Q:Our kitchen has vinyl tile squares from the 70‘s for the floor. Underneath that is terrazzo (sp?) and nothing else. They are proving to be a massive pain in the butt to remove so I was wondering if we even really need to. They are very thin and very stuck. Can we just skip tearing them out and go ahead with the new ceramic tile install?
Even the thinnest vinyl tiles will allow some flexing will cause the tiles to pop off. You might be able to lay some cement backing board on the vinyl, you're going to have to put it down anyway.
Q:We currently have vinly tile in our tiny kitchen. We want to upgrade but want something that looks nice and is easy to install. What would you recommend (not wood)? Also, would we have to take up the vinyl floor tiles or install on top of it?
I once had a laminate flooring installed in my kitchen. It was about 16 square and looked like terra cotta tile. It was shaded where the grout was printed on the laminate. So, it looked like real tile. When they installed it, they didn't remove any of the old flooring. They just lay a sheet of thin foam rubber backing and installed the laminate squares (they had a tongue-and-groove interlocking). It came out great and cost about $6 a square foot installed. But, it's easy enough to do yourself. A friend of mine does tile and couldn't believe it wasn't real tile (he had to actually feel it to prove it to himself).
Q:6 blocks, 12 mirrors, 3 white tiles.
i've got been blocked with the aid of human beings while hitting their questions and in many circumstances i'm thinking who the hell ARE you?? i've got been blocked for the stupidest of motives so attempt to not difficulty approximately it.
Q:We had redid our cupboards a couple years ago and still have to properly cover the hole that was left for the vent on the previous vent system. It looks like they used staples of some type but the way it is just needing 1 and a half (or less) tiles it‘s awkward.
Most ceiling tiles have a tounge groove so each tile fits into another. When you are piecing in tiles it's impossible to get the tounges in the grooves without breaking them. I would suggest, cutting off the tounges with a razor knife and install with Liquid nails or some other construction adhesive. To keep the tiles in place while the glue is drying, cut a 2X4 long enough and put it under the tile while the glue sets up. You might want to put a towell between the tile and the 2X4 to keep from damaging the tile. For the 1/2 tile, score the backside of a tile with a razor knife then break it in half.
