- Q:Just moved into a house with tile floors, I have fiber mopped, stick-vac‘d, wet mopped them and they still feel gritty on my bare feet. Anyone have any suggestions or will they always feel dirty?
- cleansing hardwood flooring or tile will greater effective than probably be the comparable, cleansing smart. My very own determination is hardwood. They do would desire to be wiped sparkling alot and you will experience any speck of dirt on them. I even have tile flooring in my kitchen and this is the comparable way. Sorry i do no longer think this helps. compromise get the two, my residing house has hardwood flooring for the era of and then interior the kitchen and bathing room we've tile.
- Q:What does the thinset and grout do to tiles when installing them?
- Buddy, you need to trot down to Home Depot and buy a tile book. Grout and mortar don't do anything to tiles.
- Q:Should i tile right to the sub floor. Or do i leave room for a baseboard? or do i put the baseboards over top of the tile and glue them on?
- Baseboard goes on top of the tile. The tile doesn't have to run clear to the floor, but does have to come down far enough to be covered by the baseboard. Then you will have to shim the bottom of the wall to keep the base from tilting. This will leave room for nailing without hitting the tile. If the tile runs all the way to the floor, place your nails so they are going thru the grout line in between the tiles.

- How to remove a tile? First of all, get a good old chisel and hammer. You have to break the tiles and remove the plaster. Just be careful you do not over do it or you will end up damaging the wall totally. Safety is also a concern. When you chisel or break these tiles, sharp pieces of it becomes a dangerous projectile scattering all over. Always wear protective gear, like glasses, gloves and a mask if you are allergic to dust. Off course if there is a drain nearby, cover it to prevent dust or tile particles from entering the drain.

- This is not sure, and some brand tiles have, and some brand tiles are not.
- Q:I am looking at removing the existing wooden fire place surround (not a mantel, but some decorative wood surrounding the fireplace), and the 70‘s fireplace hearth, and replacing each with some nice slate tiles. The slate would be attached to the wall, and to the floor. Is there anything I should know when attaching (slate) tiles to a wall? Do I need to remove any paint, or can I get an adhesive that will bond (PL Premium or regular mortar mix?). How close should the grout lines be with slate? I know with marble you want them close, and with ceramic you can have some space. How do you ensure the tiles don‘t slip when attached to a vertical wall. Sorry for the questions, but I do appreciate any suggestions and answers!
- I would definitely remove the paint. Use a ceramic tile type of adhesive not mortar.Use a coarse notched trowel The grout lines should be as close as possible. It will look better not to be a contrasting color, better a black or grey. To keep the slate from slipping, you just will have to lay a few at a time, let the adhesive set up and do some, more and so on. You will get an idea of how many to do at a time by just working with them.
- Q:Following on from my previous question about tiles... I had asked if it's better to remove them or tile over the top. At that time, I thought they were bedded in the same stuff as the bathroom tiles were upstairs which was a very fine and compacted sandy stuff that was not set.However, after trying to remove a couple of the mosaic floor tiles in the kitchen, it seems they are bedded in the actual concrete floor itself !!! and instead of being able to remove them, it just chips the tile and breaks off the surface somewhat. They're extremely difficult to remove so: Will my new tiles be completely ok if set on top of these? can you please let me know how to prepare them and what to look out for?Height-wise it doesn't matter, I'll simply order shorter doors. I'm really concerned about the long term strength because it's a kitchen that will get a lot of use / humidity/ etc...Thank you
- You can set tiles over tiles . You ll need to get a thin set that is modified to do this. Check on the back of the bag it will tell you . The price will give it away too lol.Tiles must be clean and oil free of course.The one step some people don t do that I do every time I do this. You must wait a day or two extra before going in and walking and grouting these tiles. The thin set needs extra drying time since moisture in thin set can t go any where. If your doing it your self no problem. If some one else does it ask them to do it on a friday and grout on monday. Or if that can t be worked out , have them do it and possible go do another small job and come back in a couple days to do it. Any questions you can e mail me GL

- Q:My husband and I put ceramic tile floors in our kitchen, dining room, office, and laundry. We cannot seem to get them clean. I use to scrub them with a brush and bleach but can‘t with a small child and being pregnant. We have tried swiffers (wet jet and sweepers) a mop and bucket, a steam mop, nothing seems to get them very clean, just pushes the dirt around. I need something that will get them sparkling and be easy to do while pregnant, please help.
