- I would try to stay away from using any type of metal in the tank. Ive had this problem before and what I did was increase the diameter of the pump intake in the sump to decrease the suction pressure (increasing the diameter of the pipe while keeping the pressure the same will decrease the overall pressure). Then I went to the hardware store, Menards to be exact, and bought plastic strainers used in gutter systems.
