Q:Question about using solar panels?
If okorder.com and they ship across the US and Canada.
Q:Are solar panels affordable?
I take it you are in the uk,no grants available that I know of .Affordability is down to how wealthy you are, cost effectiveness? you may!!!recover the cost over about 20 to 30 years depending on your power use, against what you would pay a power Co. Worth while? frankly just another scheme to prise money out of the public,in the name of ecology or cost saving.
Q:What Size Solar Panel Would I Need?
Solar in Chicago is not much help, you would need at least 3kwh for whatever size unit you have, (3 tons is meaningless in this context!) You would not get enough sun even in the summer to operate for more thn 6 hours a day. For Chicago you probably need a wind generator, or go for a heat pump.
Q:energy and solar panels?
It depends on the size of the solar panels and the intensity of the solar-light. So, there's difference in every place. It's impossible to answer unless there's detail of panel size, panel quantities, average rainfall, average solar days, etc.
Q:Which stores can you buy solar panels at?
Canadian tire
Q:What things can a solar panel power?
Add up the Watts, listed on the nameplate of each item, and compare that to the wattage of the solar panels, watts/square foot times number of square feet of panels. That will give you the most your panels can power if everything is on at the same time, the sun is at its brightest, and there are no losses in the system. Then you've got your storage capacity and inverter capacity to consider. If you've only got 8 hours a day of sunlight, then you need 3 times the area to cover the other 6 hours in the day. Although you are unlikely to run everything full bore all the time, neither is the sun a constant. For most people the best actual return on investment can be had by using the panels to store energy in a preheater for the hotwater tank fill line. This avoids the cost of batteries, an inverter, and an automatic throwover switch, as well as the time, trouble and expense of dealing with the power company. If you actually have energy left over, the best way to use it is to charge a battery bank connected to an uninterruptible power supply on your most used and non essential equipment, ie TV and Computers. When you are there, unplug the UPS and run your stuff on the batteries in that. I'm sure a electronic type could build dropout relay that would automatically switch the ups back to line power when the batteries start to run out. You would want to disable the inverter's charge circuit also or it would use line power to charge the batteries.
Q:do solar panels have to be in direct sunlight?
As above, but also make sure the panels you use will still produce if partially shaded. Some older panels will quit producing if you so much as put your hand over a small portion of it. Newer ones don't do this but are more expensive. As you may need more panel area to produce enough energy to fill a battery (if that is how you go) make sure you have the room/roof area for additional panels.
Q:Cost and energy generated by solar panel?
A little more than 0 watts per square foot, so that size panel would generate 250 watts under ideal conditions, which is noon on a sunny but not too hot day, near the equator. That's about /3 horsepower, or the same power as a man working hard. That is larger than needed to keep the battery of the car charged, unless you plan to run a laptop or something off it at night. The power is also too small to power the car for driving. If it's an electric car, you could get maybe another 2 miles per day out of the car, again, under ideal conditions. An RV store might have an idea of how much installation would cost. They would be accustomed to solar panels for RV's, but probably not small cars. A panel of that size would cost perhaps $500-800 just for the panel.
Q:Photodiode vs solar panels?
Yes, so are camera sensors. Except in cameras they're specially desgined to reduce noise.
Q:DIY solar panels for Gride tie?
Congratulations on your solar panel. It takes a lot of work to construct one. Tying to the electric grid requires permission from your power company, and conformance to local building codes. This generally means compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), meaning your panels must be UL (or similar rating from another standard) listed, for fire and electrical safety reasons. Homemade panels won't qualify, unfortunately. I really would discourage you from trying to do a jungle installation without permission, as the power distribution in a house is nothing to be trifled with. That would also likely void your homeowner's insurance, and give the bank a reason to call your mortgage, if you have these.
