True, it's the same size as a crib. However, parent's don't switch from a crib to a toddler bed because a toddler all of a sudden needs more room.... They switch because their child is growing up, and is ready to transition from an infant bed, to one that resembles a grown-up bed. There's really nice difference between a twin size bed and a toddler bed either, except that the toddler bed is closer to the ground. Which is good, because that means the child can get in and out of bed on her own, plus if there is a roll-out, it's not going to cause any damage. And, a crib is only safe is the child is not trying to climb out every time he/she is placed in there. If your child is continually trying to get out of a crib, then no, it's not safer.
