I have a full size bed and a queen sized comforter, I like it cause it hangs down a little more where full sized ones show a little of the boxspring. Some bedspreads are designed to go all the way to the floor or have seams or trim that is meant to line up with the corners of the mattress, those may not work as well.

Your attic bed won't count for the HRA at all. But to change it, first have a bed in your pocket. Then, go to the foot/head of your current bed and tap the bed. Then you will be able to change it.

Aspen is okay to use. It's ceder and pine that causes problems.

You can buy beds,coats and bandanas which have water absorbing crystals sewn into them. You submerg the item in water for about 15 minutes and then they stay cool for hours. They really work - I belong to a dog display team and all our members dogs wear the keep cool bandanas and when my dog does flyball she has her keep cool jacket on. Since it has such a unique design, too much will take away from that. My daughter has an old 4 poster canopy bed and we just hung fabric from the rail that runs parallel to the headboard. WE drapped a LONG, white tulle, curtain over the rail so it hangs down behind the headboard. You can still see the wall color thru it, but it adds just enough detail, interest, and softness w/out taking away from the beauty of the bed itself. You could also use beads in addition to or in place of drapping fabric.
