Q: How to choose used excavators, from where to start?: Look for a expert mechanic to give you input. You will want to know which ones are the easiest to fix and which ones are the easiest to find parts for. Then consider the type of work you plan to use the excavator for. You will want to limit your selections to ones that will meet your demands, and easy to repair and/or have a good supply of parts. From that list of acceptable models, you will need to do research on the particular excavator. You will need find one that has excellent maintenance records at a price you can afford.

Q: I'm looking for a 2.5 tire for a sick hefty AM almost FR hardtail...(probably a Transition Vagrant)... I wanted something wide, predictable and that would really hook up on just about everything... I couldn't decide between the 2 tires so I'm thinking maybe Kenda in the rear, WTB in the front???: I love the Weirwolfs....not too crazy about them on the front because they kick up crap all over my legs, but it's a great tire. I run it on the rear. A couple friends of mine didn't like the way they cornered because they said they could feel the bumpiness of the gaps in the corner knobs....I've never noticed it and they do great for me. Excavators are pretty aggressive....very different than the Weirwolf. If you have loamy or sandy/loose soil they'll hook up great. Kinda rough on the trails, though, so if you don't need the big knobs, maybe gear down a notch. Maxxis Highrollers or WTB Prowlers are worth looking at, and there are still a lot of people riding IRC Trailbears, too. Intense makes some great tires....definitely worth looking at.

What kind of jobs and how big a job can these machines do?: yes. you have more than enough truck to tow this. my uncle and i pulled a semi up a hill with his. so yeah... youve got truck. dont under estimate it. car trailer should do it. but at least get a tandem axle. most tandem axle trailers already have brakes so if u hook everything up you're good to go. 7 pin = braking. however a brake controller (sits up in the cab and controls how much work the trailer brakes are doing) is strongly reccomended) 4pin= lights only. if you do get a car trailer. look at what its maximum capacity is. go to a trailer dealer. (the one ur going to buy from) and ask them which trailer best suits your needs (they tend to know what they're doing) and when i say car trailer i mean flatbed that weighs well more than you can push around by hand

Some excavators and dump trucks are huge, too large to drive on highways. They are trucked in in pieces and built on site.
