- Q:we have about 500 sq feet of tile in our house and want to put carpet over it. the tile is not finished in the hallway tho, does that matter? and do you know an approximate cost for ripping the tile out? like $1,000+? $2,000+?thank you!
- Ceramic tile? (As opposed to vinyl). If its ceramic, then it really isnt that hard to remove, and shouldnt be that expensive. Ask your carpet installer if he can do it. I had about 400 sq ft.of ceramic tile removed, and laminate flooring put down, and they did it all in one day. If you put carpet over ceramic tile, you will feel a lip where it is not finished. If its vinyl tile, then dont remove it - just go over it. The height difference would be negligible.

- Q:The bathroom tile in my recently purchased house isn‘t finished. The previous owner used floor tile to surround the tub; he/she left many pieces of tile unfinished, but luckily left us a stack of the tiles so we could finish it off. However, we don‘t have an unlimited supply of these tiles, so we‘d like to get it right with as few tries as possible!I‘m wondering: -I need to fit the tub faucet and knobs within two 12 square tiles. What‘s the best way to measure the placement of the fixtures? Is it possible to make some sort of template that I could transfer to the tiles? -Can I make the cuts for the fixtures using a hacksaw-type tile saw blade, or should I buy a tile drill bit? (I realize it rather depends on where the fixtures fall within the tile-- but if I don‘t need to buy both, I won‘t waste my money. )Thanks!
- I'll try to answer this in layman's terms as best i can.. Take one tile and hold it exactly square with the tile just above the faucet Knob. Take another tile and put the edge of it dead center in the middle of the faucet knob(this will take another person to lend a helping hand obviously).The other edge of the piece of tile you are holding on the center of the faucet knob will come to exactly where you want to put the center bit of the tile hole cutter so mark that with your pencil take the piece your holding square on the tile above the faucet knob down and cut your hole using a tile hole saw bit that is slightly larger in diameter than the faucet knob.. Sorry if this sounds complicating but i think once you start doing it you'll see how easy it is.. Good luck..
- Q:Hello. To clean a fridge water was poured on the lower section . The water spilled out onto the floor where white tiles are. I left for a minute and came back and saw that the white tiles had grey blotches or spots. What happened, and how can I cure this?
- Tile won t stain under normal circumstances so I suspect the glaze is a bit worn off rt in front of the fridge.. That can be a wet spot that will dry eventually or stain the tile body in which you have no choice but to r and r the tile(s).. GL
- Q:My husband and I are building a new home. I would love to put ceramic tiling in my kitchen/dining room (they are combined). Do you think that 14‘X23‘ is too large for tiling? - All I can say is: its probably not a great idea to put it right on top. It becomes more likely for it to come up. And then the process of taking up a layer of laminate and a layer of ceramic tile would be that much harder when it came about. I think the only way to make that work without taking up the ceramic tile is to make an air tight seal between the 2. I couldn't give you any ideas on how to do that though.
- Q:I purchased a house that came with a pool. The drawback is that tile is covering the outside of the pool which makes it extremely slippery for my family and guests. What a good solution to this challenge? Lastly, what‘s going to be the best and cheapest alternative to this? Someone mentioned to me that the rubbery mats they use at restaurants works very well, but I need to know the best and cheapest alternative.Suggestions?
- If your swimming pool area has not been treated it probably is a liability because untreated areas are slippery. Many accidents are happening on a daily basis where adults and children are falling as a result of slippery, wet surfaces that are being walked on. Swimming pools should be a fun place but this has to be balanced with safety. Whether you are an adult or a child there is significant danger associated with tiling around pools!
- Q:For my Science fair project i am testing different types of toothpastes and I was planning on soaking tiles in different liquids to satin them, but I don‘t know which tile would work? Any Ideas?
