Q:shining hospital floors.
Go to the $1 shop and buy a new mop and floor cleaner for it. Stop using the old dirty ones at the hospital. You'll be amazed by how much cleaner the floors with be by using new stuff. Greg.
Q:The flooring was put in yesterday (they call it "floating floor" laminate) and as we walked on it last night we notice that some of the boards creak and groan. I know that traditional hardwood flooring does that when it gets older, but is laminate supposed to? Because if it's not, LOL - we need to get them back out here! Thanks.
i install floors for a living and it is not supposed to creek. if it does than that means that they did not use any floor leveler and they most likely used the cheapest padding they could find. get them back to fix it if you can.
Q:Looking for a green safe way to lay carpet onto of the basement floor with pading. Existing Carpet was glued down. I have a new born baby and the basement didn't get finished before she was born. I feel it is unsafe now to lay the carpet now. but if they don't us glue is their a way to staple into concret floor.
What about the tacking strips. Or you can even get the double sided tape for flooring. Good luck to ya, and congrats on the new baby.
Q:We bought an older home (1965) with hardwood floors. They were good and solid when we moved in, been living here a year, and now they have started swagging in the center of the house. What causes this? I also noticed directly above where the floor swags the nails are popping through from the ceiling. So is it just a floor problem or is the entire house drooping, or settling?
Have major renovations been done to the home? If so, were walls removed. I'd get a building inspector or engineer in to make sure a supporting beam wasn't removed.
Q:what is a finsih floor elevation on site plan? and does anyone know where i can find a sample and/or handout?
That is the elevation of the finished floor. Sorry no handout, or sample.
Q:Is It Possible For Me To Put Down Laminate Flooring Even If My Floors Aren't Perfectly Even? How?
The industry standard for subfloors is 3/16 in 10' or 1/8 in 6'. This is a little bit too righteous but if your floors are much worse than that it's a good idea to level them. If you don't the floor will bow and flex when you walk on it. This will lead to weakening of the tongues and board separation. You can buy an excellent self-leveling compound called Novoplan 2. Mix it nice and soupy and pour it on the floor. With just a little bit of guidance the patch will find its own level. If you don't want to go to all the trouble of leveling your floor with cement, you can fill low spots with another material as you install the floor. Pieces of cardboard, roofing shingles, or scraps of vinyl flooring, anything that will fill the void beneath the floor without bouncing or compressing. Of course this is not the recommended solution but it can get you by. Just don't try to do anything too radical. If you have any questions on installation, you can e-mail.
Q:I want to lay floating floors but my OSB sub floor is uneven. In some spaces it gets close to a inch in difference. I was wanting to know if floor leveling compound will fix this? Also if you could give my a brand or name of a good one.
Floor leveling compound will do the trick. Clean floor well, use the recommended latex primer and do the pore.Check the thickness you can do in a single pore though. Some levelers you can only do certain depths in one pore. You may or may not have to do it in 2 pores. There are some self leveling compounds that you can do in a single pore. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar, I ve attended several installation seminars as well as installed a couple 100,000 s/f/ GL
Q:Pergo Flooring install question
Yeah, despite what the instructions say, you can install laminate on top of almost any even, hard surface. I've put it on top of slab, linoleum, and sub-flooring without any issues and without ever using the plastic vapor lock sheet.
Q:I hate the tile in my kitchen but my Dad will not let me take it out. I was hoping for something quick and enexpensive. I came across cork flooring. Now..I figured the floating meant no adhesive. Has anybody applied this type of flooring on top of tile and did it work? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Floating floors can be installed over tile as long as the tile is level and even. If the tiles are uneven then the floating floor will also be uneven and could crack at the joints, depending how it is made and just how uneven the floor below is. Cork is an excellent option for a kitchen, but make sure to apply a urethane clear-coat over it to seal the joints and prevent water from penetrating to the substrate material below the cork. The cork itself is resistant to mold and mildew and water damage, but the layers of the floating floor system below the cork are not, so do it properly so you won't be having to redo it again too soon. Good luck!
Q:I installed a floating floor and it seems that water can penetrate between the seems. how could I seal these?
As to a Pergo or any type of laminate or floating floor the installation is the key. All floors have some kind of locking system which should deter most of the water from seeping through, they all have some type of repellent finish. If installed correctly the amount of water would be minimal. But, as with all laminate and floating floors water spills should be wiped immediately as replacing a single piece is virtually impossible w/o taking the whole floor up,
