Q: this summer, my a/c was leaking water causing wet spots on the floor.i used a towel to try to dry but then over the course of weeks my floor began to buckle. i dont know what this is. it may be water under the floor. will this be a major problem? anyone know round about estimates?: First off, we need some details. Is this a floor covering that is buckling? (As in laminate flooring) Or is this the sub-floor that is buckling? (Generally particle board, OSB, or plywood, found under vinyl flooring, carpet, or other floor covering). Dimensions? (How much of the floor is buckling?) There is the off chance, also, that you have a warped floor joist. How much it is going to cost will depend on which problem you've got, what kind of floor covering, and material & labor rates in your area. OSB sub-flooring in my neck of the woods is running about $13 for a sheet of 3/4 x 4'x8'. Plywood of the same thickness and size is running about $32 per sheet. This could turn into a major problem, if you let it go. Mold can set in, and then you'd have a really nasty problem. By the way, that leak from the air conditioner was probably from dirt in the drain line. It needs to be cleaned out, or replaced, before running the AC. Without those details, we can't very well give even a rough guess at the expense to repair it. Call some local flooring contractors to come out and give you some estimates. Q: Another laminate flooring question.I am laying this floor in a family room which has a total of 7 doorways. What is the best method of installing this kind of floor along(not through) doorways?: just keep in mind that laminate floats, so it needs to be able to move underneath the door jamb. when you say doorways, are there doors or just openings? if its an opening, then you can cover it with a baseboard. if its a door, then use a dremel cut off wheel to notch out a little of the jamb, and tuck the laminate just barely under the jamb, so there is a little hollow there but you cant see it. cover the ends with a transition or a reducing moulding (sold at hardware stores, depends on if the laminate is taller, shorter or the same as whats on the other side of the door)

Q: I'm renting a home and my chairs in the kitchen scratch the floors and some deep scratches how can I remove those scratches from a pergo floor installed in 2005: You can buy stick on pads to put on the bottom of your chair legs to keep them from scratching the floor.They are spongy circles or squares in different shapes with a peel off backing. You can buy them at Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal mart and some hardware stores. If the scratches aren't too deep, you may be able to buff them out with mineral spirits and an old towel. If they are deep, try a wax pencil in wood tones, made to fill in and conceal scratches on wooden furniture. Try to get the stick on's right away, or the floor will just get worse and worse.

All floors have some kind of locking system which should deter most of the water from seeping through, they all have some type of repellent finish. If installed correctly the amount of water would be minimal. But, as with all laminate and floating floors water spills should be wiped immediately as replacing a single piece is virtually impossible w/o taking the whole floor up,
