Q: We are having a 40 year old house re-insulated, 1700sq ft with blown insulation by a contractorAbout how much will this cost, I have no frame of referanceThank you.
you could try bringing em back into ur house before u go bed
Q: I am looking to remove old attic insulation, but i have been getting mixed answeredI am looking to put insulation in my attic between the rafters with an R-30 valueIs that enough or to much R value? Plus do i need un-faced or faced insulation? I live in Western New York in a 900 sq ft single story house, and my attic is just like a crawl spaceAny help or information would help me this winter, thank you.
Whatever you decide to do wear a proper mask and overallsLeave the old stuff where it is and lay more over the top best R value the better
Q: What I want to know is how much insulation this will offer. What can I put in the 2 inch space between the existing sheetrock and the new sheetrock?? The wall is dry, no mold.but is an old 2x4 wall with less than addiquate insulationI can not tear out the old wall so I am going to attach 2x2's to the 2x4's through the sheetrock and put an insulator in the space, a layer of plastic and new sheetrock.Any ideas????
no plug outlets and such I hopethat'll be a little more work to get those rightas well as the door and window trimsIt's sort of a weird process you have going thereyou're that guy I used to cuss at as I tore down his work aren't you? Seriously though.typically walls have an R11 ratingI am not sure how much R value you can get from a 1 to 1 1/2 foam board but I think that would be the only way to goIf you try to compress fiber insulation in that space it's going to cause you a lot of problems installing and in the end reduce the R vaule significant;y because you have compressed the insulation how ever on the bright sideif that wall you are covering is insulated you are already have some r value thereEven the pocket between the two walls created would act as an insulatoradding some thin foam board and eliminating any draft spaces should even improve your insulation situation.
Q: i wanted to add more fibre to my diet as i feel i do take in enoughi was looking for some suggestions on how to add it in or maybe how you have added more fibre in to your diet
Eat more raw fruits and vegSnack on apples, carrots, celery instead of other thingsHeck, even cooked veg are better than none but try to get as many fresh ones as you canEat more beans! They are a wonderful source of fiber and pack a ton of great nutritionAdd canned and rinsed beans to soups, pasta saucesAdd some chick peas to your salads Eat more whole grain productsCereals, breads, crackers, even popcorn is considered a whole grainRead your food labels and look at the content When baking something, replace up to 1/2 of the amount of all purpose flour with oat flourYou can make your own oat flour by taking old fashioned (not quick cooking) oatmeal and grinding it in a food processor until it's as fine as you likeYou won't taste the difference and it adds more fiberI've had to get creative with my family because they won't eat whole wheatI've found a high fiber, unbleached white flour that works pretty wellIt does require that you use a little less flour in certain applications like bread or cookies that are supposed to be chewyI use the oat flour thing all the timeI sneak more veg, beans in anywhere I can! It's not all that hardEat high fiber bread toasted for breakfast with fruit and yogurtA sandwich on whole wheat with some veggies and fruit and some whole wheat crackers makes a good lunchPlan a nice salad or a pile of steamed veggies with dinnerPlan for some snacks too! But introduce the fiber slowly or you may get some tummy issues like bloating, gas and so forthStart with the breakfast for a week or so, then add the higher fiber lunch and a couple weeks after that add more fiber to your dinner and after that work on snacksDrink lots of water too!
Q: The ice dams are on a second story dormer, next to impossible to reach with a snow rakethe dormer has practically no overhangBesides, the ice is already there.too late for a rakeBut picture window seams are leaking drips on the dormer sideCan I use like a caulk-like sealer on the seams? Or glue, like seal-all? Open to any suggestionThanks,
You have to understand that if you are getting a few drops of water coming through the ceiling that the water had to go through shingles,felt-paper,flashing.floors and sub-floors,insulation,plaster,drywall and last several coats of dried paint, therefore homeowners sometimes find several gallons of water pooling in rafter bays above plaster.I suggest to drill a 1/2 inch hole in the most centralized area of the leak to drain the possible lake.(It is better to patch a half inch hole than wait till several square foot of ceiling fall and possibly injure or even kill someone The next step is you have to get a ladder or scaffolding or whatever even a rope restraint system(recommended anyways) to hold you on the roof, then very carefully using a rock hammer,a pic or mattock or even a straight claw hammer chip away at ice down to an inch or two from the surface and as your doing this put generous amounts of calcium chloride or other snow melting material,DO NOT USE ROCK SALT,as it can refreeze after it gets under the shingles or out of light causing more damage as 1 drop of water freezing can move several thousand tons of weight The salty water will not do near as much damage as a caved in ceiling will cause and by spring after thousands of gallons of snow melting and spring rains will be so diluted that you will not notice it.
Q: I want to dye a white blanket navy blue
Make sure the blanket isn't made of polyester which does not accept dye very wellIf it's cotton, rayon or any other natural fiber it will dye fine but thigs you dye yourself (especially blues) tend to fade fairly quickly just from washing normallyIt helps if you put lots of salt in the water when you dye it but it will still fadeBlues just aren't very colorfast.
Q: Our attic is unfinished (it's all 2x4's and insulation up there) and I am interested in exploring the attic for a small wiring projectUnfortunately, a number of the rooms in the house have large tray ceilings or vaulted ceilingsThis causes some problems when I am trying to move around in the attic, since I reach a point that I can't go beyond (the tray ceiling)There is no room to walk/crawl around it and essentially it looks like a big bump with insulation all over itAs far as I can see there are not any other entrances to the attic over the other side of the house, so I am at a lossI do not want to crawl on top of the tray since I would be crawling on insulation and for all I know the tray can not support any weight.I realize that without seeing the layout it may be difficult to respond, but i was wondering in general how people move around in attics that are above tray/vaulted ceilings? Are there any tricks?
what is the use of the piece you want to coat? the best thing I can suggest with out knowing more is wet look by behr available at Home Depotyou get a high gloss look.
Q: Im 19 but i've never used the bus beforei've been in iowa working for a few months now but i have been really home sicki was alone for my birthday and im about to spend christmas alone tooi want to go back to south texas really soon but a plane ticket is out of the question, i can afford a bus but i've heard its really confusing and easy to get lost i want to know if that is trueif someone could give me some tips i would honestly be grateful
I rode on the Greyhound bus line for the first time 6 months ago and had no problemsI went on-line to make reservations, printed out the reservation slip and drove over to the bus stop to pick up the ticketOn the day of the trip I arrive an hour early to check in my bag (as stated on the ticket)I think if I arrived 30 minutes early it would have been okay, but in the big bus terminals you do need that hourSome stations allow you to pay $5 for early boarding/assigned seatingVery much worth itI left at 4 PM, traveled for 2 hours then sat in a station for 3 hours for my connecting bus to arriveThere were plugs to charge your electronicsThere were restrooms, vending machines and hard uncomfortable chairs to wait onThere was no food or drink available except for the vending machine chips, candy soda So bring dried fruit, crackers, beef jerky, fiber/energy bars to fill you upA plastic or steel bottle to fill with waterSome powered drink mix to put in the waterA small pillow and throw blanketI printed up maps of the bus route (so I kind of knew where I was) and kept them in a folder in my back packMy back pack was my purse and I kept it with me alwaysThere's usually food stops every 3 hours or so.
Q: I now eat little fat in my meals, almost no oil, no meat, sometimes fish/shrimp(mostly boiled)i eat whole wheat bread, fruit, Veggie, low fat, low sugar food, drink pretty of water, no diary food for me (i drink soymilk).but why am i so constipated? every time i go to the bathroom, i have the unfinished feeling, there is always something left in my body, which is really annoying, because my belly kind of sticks outshouldn't i have much better bowel movements since i am eating low-fat, high-fiber food?can someone help me?Thanks
Believe it or not, you really may not be getting enough fat to really properly eliminate the waste from your bodyIf by upping your fiber and drinking more water you still have the problem, I would suggest adding more fat to your dietIf that doesn't work, talk to your doctor as their are a variety of things that could be causing the problemAs already pointed out, fish isn't part of a vegetarian/vegan dietYou have a diet where you have made the choice of cutting red meats from your diet, but not all animal protein.
