- Q: Okay the apartment i live in was built in the 60‘s and unfortunately everything is completely out of date. Trying to get the maintnence people out is more of a hastle than help. - Do NOT use kaboom. Are your tiles loose? If so you need a tile repair specialist to repair your tiles, re-grout and re-caulk. If the tiles are NOT loose, try a basin half filled with water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar. use a sponge and work between the tiles better known as the grout lines. If the grout lines are really black, use a utility knife and remove some of the blacken grout before you use the water, clear vinegar and baking soda. Repeat this procedure once a day for a week, then twice a week for a month, and then once a week for life. In tile you will see the grout lines looking better and the tiles will be clean without a filmy stain on them. After every shower, use a wash cloth to remove excess water from your bathroom tiles. - By tiling over it without pulling it up... :) Really. You either tile over cement or whatever is already there. It's commonly done, it's just not the 'clean' or thorough way of doing things. It's best if the floor is completely flat without the ridges that linoleum usually has, to prevent cracks. Just clean the floor well, leave no debris, and you should be alright.

- My Lowes in Chantilly, VA cuts tiles. Just had a couple cut yesterday. They do not want to cut tiles that they did not sell to you though since they cannot replace if the tile cracks or they cut it badly. - Q: Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.
- While its always best to remove the tile and start with a fresh base for a new sub floor for the vinyl tile. This can be done .. You need to go over the tile with whats called an embossing leveler.. This will allow the vinyl to not show the grout lines. The high spots can be knocked down or floated so its barely noticeable. . By the time you do all this and the chance that you don t get any uneven tile floated out, your better off taking every thing out and do it proper. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
