- Q: it sets fast, is there any gun, aparatus or equipment to easly apply epoxy tile grout.
- 1. Why epoxy?, it will take longer to apply, will be messy and won't give you the opportunity to allow it to go under bare spot of your tile. 2. I would take it back and get regular grout. 3. Sounds like your going for a good seal and the best way to do that is regular grout and a grout sealer. 4. If you still want to use it, tape around all tiles, wear rubber gloves (surgical tight fitting type) and have a bucket of water handy. Apply epoxy about half of what you need, wet finger and push into cracks, then add more and smooth with wet finger. The whole process should take about an hour for a 4x4 section when you can grout a whole room in a half hour with regular grout. One last thing to consider, if you ever crack a tile it will be next to impossible to replace just one without breaking others around it, but with regular grout it would be relatively easy.
- Q: We just had tile intalled in our home. What products do you use (or recommend) to clean tile? On a regular basis? Spill/Accident basis? Also, can anyone recommend a good cordless sweeper (for tile of course)?
- i don't know but i got 2 points
- Q: I have 1in. tile all over my bathroom,is tthere a paint to use that will stay on?
- You can get tile paint, but I've never seen a good finish with it. It'd be better to change the tiles.
- Q: How do the concrete on the outer wall tiles be removed?
- You can also wipe with a steel ball sticky oxalic acid. Sassafras are good to rinse oxalic acid with water. (Note: oxalic acid is corrosive, with the time must be allocated a good proportion, pay attention to personal protection). Optional cement mortar cleaning agent. Depending on the dirty situation can be diluted 1-5 times. How to use: Spray the sand on the mortar contaminated area, wait a moment to scrub directly. The disadvantage is the sand of the Department of chemical products, should be in the same place with a small enemy sand enemy, confirmed and then used a large area. Should try to avoid with stainless steel, plating, coated glass and other surface contact, if the pollution should be washed as soon as possible with water rinse residual liquid.
- Q: I just installed a backsplash in my kitchen. It is glass mosaics with slate - 1x1. Today I began grouting and after it sat for 2 hours ( as instructed) I began wiping it down with a wet sponge. After scrubbing it for about an hour there is still a considerable amount of grout on the tiles - especially the slate. I used non sanded grout which is recommended for my tiles, but it will not come off! What can I do to remove the grout off of these tiles without scratching them? Please help. Thankyou
- I don t know who told you 2 hrs but that's totally wrong.He/ she should be shot or fired for telling you that. I d suggest a sanded grout for a slate, even a small 1x1 but with the glass tiles, you have to be careful not to scratch them. Did you seal the slate prior to setting or at least grouting? The grout my be clinging to the unsealed slate as well. At this point vinegar and water will not touch it. Start by scrapping off excess with a pc of wood or a plastic scraper.Don t use any thing metal. Once the excess is off, get a cleaner specifically for grout clean up.Hydroment makes a product called Remove but you can find other products were tile products are sold. Any other questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Would like to tile my bathroom floor. House is on a slab, bathroom has existing laminate flooring.1. Do I need to remove the laminate flooring or can I tile on top of it?2. Do I need to install a backer board first?3. Any tips I need when tiling around toilet plumbing and reinstalling the toilet?
- Go to a store that sells flooring pick out what you like then ask them for advice. You do not have to purchase that day so tell them you need to save money and may have to do the job yourself. They should be able to tell you on the floor you pick out if you can install that type or if you need to pick out something more user friendly
- Q: Can I install vinyl tiles in a bathroom. Will it shift over time and look bad. How does moisture affect vinyl tiles?
- It depends on the surface you put them on and the quality of the tiles. In most cases, with cheap peel and stick tiles that adhere to the surface below, they will tend to shrink, curl up at the endges and peel back after a while. It's not so much moisture as temperature changes and poor durability of the thin vinyl and poor adhesive. I'd recommend you use the Home Depot Allure line of peel and stick floating vinyl floor tile that is made by Trafficmaster. I just did a friend's bathroom with that product last weekend and was very impressed. The tiles stick to each other instead of the floor surface beneath so you can put them down over any solid surface and moisture will not effect them. They have a 25 year warranty also. At about $1.79 per square foot it is a pretty good deal and installation is a snap. We covered her entire 6' by 8' bathroom floor in less than 2 hours, including all the cuts around the toilet base and doorway. All you need to install it is a metal framing square or tee square, a sturdy pair of scissors, a measuring tape and a utility knife. Cool product. They make versions that look like tile and others that look and feel like real wood. We used the wood and it looks great. I've also used the Trafficmaster direct adhering commercial grade peel-and-stick tiles in areas that had moisture (an entryway and a powder room) with no problem but I made sure I had good birch plywood underlayment and I sealed it before laying the tile and also ran a bead of silicone caulk around the edges.
- Q: best way to install floor 12inch by 12 inch floor tile
- First you decide if you want a seam or a row of tiles in the middle. Make sure the floor is clean and without divots (fill in any holes). Drop a chalk line down the center of the room and lay a row of tiles dry (no stick) along the line to see how they look. You don't want one end to leave a sliver and the other end to leave almost a full tile - try to balance the ends that have to be cut. Now dry-lay a perpendicular row from the center to check the ends going across the room. Lay a full tile or its edge down on the chalk line. This first tile will be used to orient all your tiles so make sure you're satisfied with the placement. Then lay a whole permanent row of full tiles down the center. Now you have to decide if you want the tiles layed side by side or brick wall pattern. Next lay the perpendicular row down permanently. Now all you have to do is fill in the quadrants as far as you can go with full tiles. After all your full tiles are down, it's the cut ones that remain. Slide a full tile in place up to the wall and mark where you have to cut. Peel and stick tiles usually can be cut with a sheetrock knife and a metal straight edge or a good pair of shears. Some of the cuts can be tricky - I can't see them so you'll have to muddle through.
- Q: My husband and I are building a small rectangular pool and want to add some mosaic tile designs on the floor of the pool. Is there a good website that explains how this should be done or can anyone share some advice on pool bottom tile work? Is this going to be easy to do or something to leave to the professionals?
- well heres a hint: buy a 2x4 or a leveling device, figure out if the floor is level. if its not buy some thin-set concrete and make it level. laying tiles on un-even ground sucks
- Q: i need to know if there are any ways to remove concrete that has already set, from tile
- Hydrochloic acid to about a 4 parts water 1 part acid may do it. Test it on a piece or not seen tile first. Paint on with a brush first, leave for about 10 mins then wire brush of. Other name is spirits of salts. Commonly used as a flux for soldering galvanised iron. USE FACE MASK VISOR TYPE AND COMMERCIAL GRADE RUBBER GLOVES. Wear an old pair of overalls or old clothes. If the acid gets on them they are history. Thorougly hose off with cold water when finished
