- Q:Say you have a 5 cm current wire carrying 10 A going from left to right. Directly 1 c.m below the left end of this wire is a long wire that is perpendicular to the first wire and goes out of the page. What is the net force on the 5 cm wire?I've tried using F=ILB with the I of the first wire and the B of the second wire.
- I didn't read the question so I was carefully working out the force. The wire is perpendicular to the first wire, so using the right hand rule you discover that the field it creates is PARALLEL to the first wire at this left end. The magnetic force is caused by the component which is PERPENDICULAR to the wire which is in fact zero. So there is no magnetic force at this point. As you move along the wire you get a diminishing amount of magnetism caused by the wire which is going out of the page but that field has a component which is DOWN the page. Therefore that part of the wire experiences a force which is into the page. ( take your right hand, put the thumb along the wire pointing to the right, the fingers point down the page, the palm points into the page which is then the direction of the force) I would be surprised if you were required to work out the magnitude of the force in this context. You can't use F= ILB because both the magnitude and the direction of the field varies at different points along the wire. If the perpendicular wire had been directly below the middle of the other wire there would have been no net force. If you were of a level where working out the force was appropriate you would need to set up the formula for B at various points along the wire, taking the vertical component only and integrate this over the range from 0 to 5 cm. Not a trivial mathematical task.

- Q:subs - dvc 4ohm 2 of them 600wattrms on each wiring it to a 1200 watt amp same brand as sub amp is 1 ohm stable to i wire the subs together and then to the amp a 1ohm? that would give each sub 600 watts right?
- myself I even have 2 - jl w6's under pressure to 3 ohms. under pressure to a fosgate 4 channel amp, the two channels bridged and the amp sees a million/2 ohm after bridging and the amp works positive with the best points set at 0 i are not getting the suitable overall performance this type and would desire to cord to 6 ohms. and bridge to 3 ohms and this would be greater suitable yet have not tried it yet will interior the destiny. shop this set up if it sounds reliable yet seem interior the destiny to get an amp or subs that artwork at the same time.
- Q:function of a fire-wire for backing up data
- Its just a wire type, the A wire can Xfer at about 400mbps, and the B wire around 800, also USB 2.0 is around 480mbps, its just the wire type has nothing to do with the product that has the cable. Like an external hard drive can have a usb 2.0 wire a Esata, Sata, firewire, its all about the speed of the wire, nothing to do with helping backup files except for the time it takes to back them up.
- Q:Coming from my ceiling I have a black, a grey, 2 white, 2 bare and a red wire. Coming from my ceiling fan/light fixture is a green, black, black with a white stripe and a white wire. How exactly would I go about wiring this? It is a two switch setup without a remote.Thank you in advance.
- You have too many wires coming from the ceiling, as it could have done (for separate fan and light control) with a black, red, white, and ground (like 14/3 w/ground romex). Someone apparently added a second run of wire up there. Up at the fan, determine which wire on the fan runs the motor, likely a black fan wire, and which powers the lights (likely a blue fan wire). Connect each to its own switch, preferably using the black you have for the fan, and say the red for the lights, tie the whites together, and the bare together. And the grey just gets ignored. This is gonna be good...
- Q:Our house ground wire is very long but our live and natural wires are very short. Once there was a surge in our telephone line system and both my Belkin Surge Protectors seemed to have not stopped it. The surge was stopped at my last protector when its sensitive fuse blew (it was a 10 ohm resistor fuse). Is it possible that since the natural wire is shorter than the ground wire the surge wantted to go through my PC and into the natural wire? Or is it just because the 10 ohm resistor fuse was a bit too sensitive or something? (Well it didn't blow up when there was no lightning outside)I'm thinking of making my natural wire longer by extending it so a surge finds the ground wire more attractive, is this advice able?
- Check and make sure its grounded properly,if your in a high surge area look into a surge meter from your electricity company.Peace of mind,no need for buying surge protectors and wishing they work.Any lose will be insured by electric company.
- Q:So I need to tap a few wires, and cut 1 wire and join it with another wire..What would be the best way to approach this? - The instructions seem pretty straight-forward. T-Taps and squeeze-connectors are basically the same thing; achieving the same results, which is to add a connection to an existing wire without interrupting the line. Just make sure you use the right size and type, meaning; don't use a low-voltage connector for a high-voltage application... You'd just fry it up. For the cut wires, I'd use crimp-connectors and some shrink-wrap. Again, using the correct connector. You can use wire-nuts, but the crimp-connectors are a more permanent fix. Good luck to ya.

- 8 guage wire will handle up to 40 amps. The 3/0 wire is used to run service entrance cable for a 200 amp service. If it is direct burial cable, it will have the letters UF on the sheathing.
