- Q: I have some ceramic tiles in my kitchen floor that I would like to paint. Would this be possible?
- If you go to the DIY store I would think you would get paint especially for the job. When you have a smooth surface to get paint or varnish to stick to it you need to give it a key (ie use sand paper to give it something to grip) This wouldnt work here as it would damage your tiles. Another thought is you get these transfers which are just squares a different colour that you can put on tiles maybe that would be worth a go.

If you're concerned about slip-resistance, see about a tile in a matte finish as opposed to a polished finish. Polished finishes can become slippery when you mop them - matte finishes are less likely to be slippery. Otherwise, if it's tile your after, then putting it in a living room is a great idea, particularly if you live in a hot climate. When shopping for tiles, make sure that you specify to your seller that you intend to use it for floor tile. You are right - certain tiles are only meant to serve as wall tiles, particularly dark colored glazed tiles. Make sure that the PEI rating on your chosen tiles are at least PEI3 or better. This is a measurement of how durable they will be in reference to where you'll be installing them. Good luck with your installation!

- You don't need a wet saw. This would only be necessary for really large areas, marble work, etc. Lowes or Home Depot sell a small manual tile cutter that runs $23 and will cut all tile up to 12. I have one of these and I did all of my kitchen counters, backsplash and island with ease. Even if I would have had a tile saw, I would still use the portable cutter. Here's the link. Good luck.
