Q:can you lay ceramic tile outside?
Actually, it can work. But once the linoleum is there, the tile will be worthless. It will be easier and cheaper to just rip up the entire floor tile and all and start over than it will be to clean all the adheasive off of the tile. If you are sure you want the linoleum anyway, you can go to a place like Home Depot, and get a floor leveler system that is ok to be used over tile. They have it, I have purchased it before. If the tile is glazed (shiny and slipery rather than rough feeling) then you will more than likely need to remove the glazing with sanding or grinding, or etch the glazing with an acid compound such as a muriatic acid mix. I have done this sucessfully when installing 12 x 12 natural stone tile over existing glazed tile in a rental unit before. It work VERY well, as the original tile was in excellent shape and had a concrete backerboard under. Once you have the glazing etched or removed, if needed, and have the floor leveled... you don't absulutely have to, but it would be an excelent idea to install a special plywood underlayment designed for use under linoleum or vinyl flooring. This will have to be glued to the prepared tile surface with a special adheasive. They have this at the Home Center as well. After that, it is just as simple as glueing the flooring down just as any other installation. The reason I wrote all that was to show that it is in fact possible and the outcome is very satisfactory if done right. In the end though, most times it will be easier to rip it up and install the linoleum. Hope that helps.
Q:Travertine tile directly to sheetrock in dry area?
NO. You need to put cement board under the tile. You can buy 3 x 5 sheets that are 1/4 thick. If you put it directly onto the sheet rock they will fall off and/or crack. Do it right the first time
Q:grout vs caulking in shower tile?
Grout is a hard material that stablizes the tile and is more appropriate when the tiles are going to be walked on, sat on or worked on (as in a counter) Caulk is a soft material that water seals cracks and has little or no wear endurance. In theory, you use grout on shower to make it match the appearance of tiles elsewhere in the room, but these days, that is often the only place tiles are used.
Q:I have a tile problem!!!!!!!?
Other than replacing the tile( which is a challenge for anybody) , all I recommend to my costumers is to cover the chip with an enamel to hide as best as possible. Grout won t hold since it s shallow and nothing to grip to.And the big splotch will stand out worse. An appliance repair enamel works well if you can find one to match or your tile is of a color that you can match..A rug or furniture is always a good stand by trick. Q:My Kitchen floor is covered w/ vinyl sheets and it is wood underneath. can i put tiles on wood instead?
I had the same cocern when I was remodeling my kitchen. I had a linoleum floor and wanted to change to tiles. I ripped out my old linoleum floor only because I wanted to keep the increase of the new flooring to a min. Everybody I taked to suggested to use backerboard over your sub floor if you want your new floor to last. Use 1/4 if you subfloor is relativley stable, 1/2 backerboard if not. But remember the difference in height of your new floor with the thickness of the backer board and tiles.
Q:Can you lay tile over linoleum?
Putting Tile Over Linoleum
Q:Do I want to use the concavity of a marble tiles to make a TV backdrop, right? Help designers,
The concavity stone is very unique, not only can do the backdrop can also do the home garden, but I still like their art painting, is the need for rice too much. O (╯ □ ╰) o, the last only bought a cappuccino series of brick, but we can learn from the effect.
Q:cracked tile countertop, how do i fix or replace it?
see if you can find new tile same color at store, then chip it out, buy some thin set or use liquid nails, then mix up a small amount of grout or buy the liquid squeeze out of a can grout,
Q:Ceramic tile floor?
tear the linolium up you should have plywood under there if its plywood you can a couple things. a you could pour a selfleveling compound on, its comes in a bag like concrete and you mix it with water pour it up to an inch thick and tile right over that. b you can lay osb or cement board on top of the plywood which come in 3x5 sheets for about 10 bucks and tile over that. the levelor would run you about $40 for a small bath maybe 75 ft2. the cement board is $10/15ft2 plus mortar $10 and screws $5. if its concrete you can tile over that just make sure its level and a clean smooth surface.
Q:Where can I get ceramic floor tiles to match what I have?
Take a piece of the tile into your local hardware store and tell them that you want to match it. If they don't have it, I would suggest just tiling over it.
