- Q:I have a 20 watt solar panel that I want to set up. I need to connect it to the solar controller but do not know what cable to use. I plan on adding more solar panels down the line. What would be the best cable to use?
- How long is the run? 2 gauge is a good choice for runs up to 25 feet at 20 watts, if you are much further in your run, move to 0 gauge to reduce resistance of the wire itself in the circuit. Otherwise refer to the prevailing electrical code of your local unit government. This is a must if you plan to maintain insurance. At lower voltage, a little resistance means a lot. 4 gauge might be okay for 20 VAC, but the voltage drop on a low voltage system from resistance of the wire itself is measurable at 20 feet. It is the difference between a light fixture working or not. If you are planning on adding additional panels in the future, you can get terminal buss with screw hold downs at various vendors like Mouser or Digi key. Each panel can be on it's own screw, while the buss is common on the other side of the connection. one for the positive and one for the negative.
- Q:I know that there is a life expectancy for solar panels, and I suppose, the technology involved. Any information?
- All okorder /... PV warranties typically allow for 20 percent output degradation over the module’s 20- to 25-year warranty life. But measurements of many modules put into service in the 980s show that it’s unusual to see even half that much degradation. Many of those earliest modules still perform to their original specifications. It is safe to say that modules carrying warranties of 20 years or more have a high probability of working well 30 years from now
- Q:Can solar panels be used in areas with frequent lightning storms?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with frequent lightning storms. However, it is recommended to take certain precautions to minimize the risk of damage. These precautions include installing surge protection devices, grounding systems, and lightning arrestors to divert the lightning strike's energy away from the solar panels. Additionally, using high-quality equipment that meets safety standards can also help mitigate potential damage caused by lightning strikes.
- Q:I have a 2 volt deep cylce Everstart battery with 845 cranking amps, and a Grape Solar GS-S-250-Fab5 250-Watt Monocrystalline Solar Panel . I use them to power a 48Flat screen TV, a Roku, my 65 watt consuming MacBook Pro, and a 65 watt Fan.I know from previous experience that just the battery, an inverter, and the fan, that the fan will blow for 0 hours straight.Should I really be concerned with a Charge Controller?
- Should I really be concerned with a Charge Controller? Yes. The main purpose of the charge controller is to protect the battery from over charging. Over charging reduces battery life. And spending extra money for a MPPT type controller will get more more useable power out of your solar panel. Would another battery of the same magnitude be helpful in preventing an accident? How much storage capacity does your current battery have (measured in kWH)? A ~$20 Kill-a-Watt meter would take a lot of uncertainty out of how much power you actually use. Even deep cycle batteries suffer reduced battery life from deep discharges. The battery sounds too small for the loads you describe so I would think you would want more. ---------------------------------------... After reading the other answer In a nutshell, with your small 2 volt starting battery, 24 volt panel and a mix of unknown loads, (which is correct), I thought I would elaborate. I had not considered the possibility that you bought a 24 volt panel for your 2 volt battery. Hooking the panel you bought directly to the current battery is a horrible idea. I you were lucky it would just cook the battery in a short period of time. You basically bought the wrong type of panel for a 2 volt system. I assume that there are no controllers on the the market for this situation. If that's the case, I don't know of any good way match the 24v panel to the 2 volt battery.
- Q:I want to build a Solar Panel at home.Where can I find possibilities for Selfmade Solar Panels
- that will sell a ready-made panel for less than that. Note that when someone puts up free instructions, they usually have lots of pictures of themselves and what they made, step-by-step. What I have noticed in all of the review sites for solar guides is that they never have a picture of what they made, in spite of their claims to have tried the guide. At best, all I see is stock pictures from the guide.
- Q:I have purchased a 2 volt LED lantern from argos, it comes with a built in 6 volt 4ah sealed acid battery. What I wanted to know is would I be able to charge it using my 6 volt solar panel?
- You okorder /... ] But I would suggest you contact . If you email, be prepared to provide more detailed specifications on your 6 volt solar panel and lantern data. You may just have to purchase a RECHARGEABLE 6V 4ah battery from them. Best of wishes.
- Q:I want to make 2V 4.5A solar panel to charge my battery used in my RC car project. I just like to know how should I amplify the current for 4.5A. I need the total circuit diagram. Can anyone help me. Please. I need some affordable methods please.
- To increase current, you connect the cells in parallel. But I think you really mean you need 4.5 watts rather than 4.5 amps of current. For an RC car, 4.5 amps would be huge, literally a regular car battery. So I think you mean you need a 2v, 4.5w panel. That would make more sense for an RC car battery. I went on OKorder and bought a 2v, 5 watt panel for about $30.
- Q:Can it be used on a cellphone so u never have to worry about low battery?
- Solar panels (arrays of photvoltaic cells) use renewable energy from the sun, and are a clean and environmentally sound means of collecting solar energy. Solar panels are a great way to generate electricity on a small scale. Solar panels are commonly named solar cells or photovoltaic cells. Photovoltaic means literally light electricity.” Solar cells or PV cells rely on the photovoltaic effect to absorb the energy of the sun and cause current to flow between two oppositely charged layers. Solar panel installation is a cost effective part of the green movement for saving energy. There are different types of solar panels available, including Monocrystalline Panels, Polycrystalline Panel, Cast Polycrystalline Panels, String Ribbon Silicone Panels and Thin Film Panels. Find more information about solar panels at this Web site:
- Q:Can solar panels generate electricity during a blackout?
- No, solar panels cannot generate electricity during a blackout unless they are connected to a battery storage system.
- Q:Can solar panels work during cloudy or rainy days?
- Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity during cloudy or rainy days, although their efficiency may be reduced. While direct sunlight is optimal for maximum power output, solar panels can still capture diffuse sunlight and convert it into usable energy.
