- Q: In my home, we have polished tiles. My kid has fall-down most of the time. Can anyone help me to remove polish from ceramic tiles?
- You do not want to do this for two reasons. One is that it will take away all the protection from the tile that allows the tile itself to be water proof and stain proof. Take away the glaze and the tile will stain. The second reason is that the glaze provides most of the tile body strength. A couple of things to help prevent tiles from being slick.. Remove all wet shoes and keep the floor dry. Hard with kids I know. Anti slip area rugs helps. And lastly there are products that you can use in the mop water that helps the tiles from being slick. - Q: My bathroom size is 7 ‘*11 ‘. If I want to use 20*20 tiles, will it look good? I want to use bigger tiles because I don‘t like grouts. Can we put anything to make the tile not so slippy?

- Yes under some special conditions.. Tile down now must be clea, free of grease and any cleaning solution residue. Must be well bonded to what ever substrate its on now. Meaning no cracks and loose tile. A special enhanced, modified thin set should be used. No foot traffic on it for a minimum ( extra is better) 2 days. This allows the thin set to dry because moisture has no where to go and you don t want to break the bond between the 2 tiles. - Q: The tile in our master bathroom is really ugly, but my husband likes the acual tiles themselves. The house was built in 1978 and the colors show bigtime. My question is this; can I paint the tiles a different color or am I just stuck with really ugly tiles until get a ton of money? If I were able to, how would I do this? Thanks in advance!

- I don't know what type of tiles you have, but if it doesn't have a glazed finish, you may not be able to do much about it. Travertine is a popular natural limestone that is very popular these days and is frequently used in bathrooms. The only drawback is that it is a soft and porous material, so it is much easier to damage that a glazed tile or a natural polished marble. The good news is that it is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Call a good tile man and get a quote to refinish and a quote to replace the damaged pieces.

- yes it can be done, lots of people are doing that with copper tiles, it might not be a bad idea to coat it with poly or lacquer so it will be easy to clean, you can just nail them on and clear silicone and gaps

- yep there is. You could put a thin sheet of ply over it and have it colored or hang pics etc.
- Q: how do i do the measuring and lay out on a 10 foot by 6 foot floor when laying the tiles diagonally?
- A 10x6 room requires 60 square feet of tile to cover the floor. On a normal square to the walls pattern, I would order 10% more tile to cover waste. On a diagonal pattern, you will have more waste. I would order 15% to 20% more tile to cover waste. To set up to lay the tile, I start by picking the most obvious sight line in the room - maybe from the next room through the door and chalk a line perpendicular to the far wall along that sight line and parallel to the side wall. Then you chalk a line 45 degrees wall to wall through the center point of the center of the first line. This is your 45 degree pattern. Chalking a line wall to wall 90 degrees from the second chalk line through that same center point gives you your grid pattern to set your tile from. Ignore the first line - that was for reference only - line two and three are the lines you set your tile from. Set out tile dry with spacers to see if you like the effect. I will sometimes set out all of the whole tile possible in the room and walk around to see if it looks good. If it doesn't look right or you end up with too small pieces along the edges or in the doorways, you can move your initial start point and rechalk your lines.
- Q: We are renovating our bathroom and I don‘t want to take out the existing vanity just update it, we were considering tiling the countertop, can we go right over the existing laminate or should we remove the whole counter top, or is it possible to just take off the laminate?
- I tiled over the laminate in my kitchen by sanding the laminate with coarse sandpaper....priming with oil-based kilz-it and then tiled and grouted. It's still in the kitchen for over 7 years. You could also remove the countertop from the cabinet and replace with 1/2 plywood topped with 1/4 cement board but you would have to cut out the whole for the sink. Tiling over it is much easier. Just figure out your tile layout. I used 12 tiles for my custom countertop in my bathroom.
