Q: Put my foot through the plasterboard and need to get it fixed asap. how would i be able to repare it ? its about 4-5 inches wide and about 3 inches long.
The quickest and easiest fix is to go to a big box home store when they open this morning and buy the drywall patch kit. It is a square or rectangular, semi hard flat piece of material that you can cover the hole with, then get a small container of drywall compound and a plastic drywall knife and follow the directions. Cost may be $15 max, may take you 25 minutes if lucky. Try to make it smooth the first time and sanding may be eliminated depending on how good you need the finish.
Q: theres a wall in my house thats a complete mess really old cracked plaster .... i know i can bond coat it and then finsh plaster it / but just wondered can you just pva... then dot and dab with drywall adhesive and board it - scrim the joints and finish plaster that? i know i'l loose probabily near on 50mm of wall but i think the finsh would be better and easier with les mess???
screw studs to the wall vertically and screw board to studs then finish plaster
Q: can i tile straight on plasterboard?
You can if it's not in a shower, or other location subject to high moisture and it would be best to roll on a primer/sealer first.
Q: Why can gypsum board can be flame retardant
Two layers of paper, the middle gypsum powder, the raw material itself is noncombustible
Q: Replace rippled plasterboard tape?My house's interior walls are all plasterboard - not plaster on brick. As is usual with modern houses (built 1995) the vertical joints at the corners of the walls are joined by plasterboard tape. Unfortunately due to differential expansion/contraction the tape has become rippled. As I am about to paint a bedroom, should I replace the rippled tape with new plasterboard tape and apply some kind of polyfilla, smooth and sand it, OR expect continued minor movement and fill the corners with some kind of decorators caulk instead of plasterboard tape?I should add I think the movement is because the walls are made of different materials - one is an end wall - plasterboard on brickwork, the other a sloping ceiling, presumably plasterboard nailed to batons?? So, different degrees of exapnsion / contraction according to the temperature rather than settlement.
Inside corner or outside corner? Inside corner use Plaster Patch and more drywall tape. Apply with a putty knife, let dry, sand. You might need a second coat. After that prime, then paint. Outside corner I would use some corner bead then plaster patch or spackle.
Q: I have some old style plasterboard in my house and I was wondering if there is any good way to smooth it out so it matches my new drywall? I'd rather not have to take it down but if it comes to that i'll do it. I am going to be texturing the new drywall. Could I just spray the texture on the old stuff and maybe hide it enough to get by?thxJoe
Its easier and cost efficient to take down the plaster and put up drywall. In the future any repairs you need you wont' have to deal with the mess and hastle. It will also give you a chance to look at any problems lying around that you can fix now. Plaster has a different texture and its thicker than drywall, so you will have a time trying to taper out the edges where its not noticable.
Q: we want to put up hooks to hold the rod for curtains, but aren't sure what screws to use to keep the hooks in place. also, i'm thinking it might be plaster, but what are the options to use to help the screws stay firmly in the wall? the last time i tried this on a wall, the screws ended up coming out of the wall later and it was easy to just pull them out. any helpful advice is greatly appreciated.
Jeff' has the right answer, there is also this new epoxy called green glue. It comes in tubes that fit in glue guns like liquid nails. The draw back is that it too is expensive about $225 a case of twelve. Good Luck Moskie257
Q: I really want to put a flat LCD tv onto my plasterboard wall and was wondering how much weight they can usually take. I did want to hang about a 32 inch which would be about 25kg...
All the DIY stores sell cheap stud detectors. Always useful.
Q: How much force do you have to use to kick a big hole in a plasterboard wall?
Pointed boots require less force than rounded boots.
Q: Public equipment, we are the first brush latex paint, and then brush fire paint, the results cracked, there has been a large drop of the situation. Gypsum board and MDF are the emergence of this situation, seeking God guidance
Gypsum board ceiling if it is necessary to brush fire retardant paint, it should be in the gypsum board and MDF on the back of the first brush fire retardant coating, and then install the front porcelain brush latex paint, so that will not affect the positive latex paint cracking The.
