Q:I have recently put up some plasterboard (or gyproc) in my kitchen and need to seal it (as it's behind a sink and a cooker). I have bought a tub of PVA, but there are no instructions on the back for what ratio to mix it to apply to the gyproc to waterproof it... Any ideas?: You can buy waterproof boards for putting in showers. But for usual plasterboards.. are you plastering on the boards of tiling straight on top? If you are tiling, you probably dont need to seal it. Though a weak mix of pva may be good to put on. 50/50 or a bit less. If its undiluted it will set too thick and shiny for tile adhesive or plaster to stick to.

Q:Is it better to use a mortar or and adhesive to dot and dab plaster board to walls?David?: In a sense the question is a bit confusing. Are you installing DRYWALL to studs? OR are you boarding over and existing wall material? Is PLASTERBOARD the actual substance? Have you defined the differences between Mortar and adhesives? Certainly if this is material going over studs or existing wall material, one might use a contracting adhesive, but it wouldn't be my choice as the only method to secure new wall material. I'm going to assume this is not Lathe/ Mesh/ and Plaster being installed. Just my two sense

Q:can i put 8ft by 4ft plasterboards on a ceiling?: Yes. You should rent a sheetrock jack for doing ceilings, it will make the job much easier. Tape & mud Then textuerd ceiling paint or have popcorn texture sprayed on.

Q:We have a wall in between a bedroom & the landing that bows when you press it.We pulled some paper off to see what was underneath & plaster crumbled away, theres now 2 big holes in the wall & it seems only the paper is holding it together.You can see the wood slats under the plaster but they are very weak. We are desperate to get this sorted so we can put our house on the market . We've been told to just bang plasterboard on top of it all, we were going to crumble all of the old plaster off & then apply plasterboard.Can anyone suggest what would be best? Thanks: it seem the wall is lathe and plaster ...if you look at the plaster carefully you will see hairs sticking out from it ...this is horse hair ..it was put in to give a better grip as the hairs curled around the gaps in the lathe ...you have two choices ..either remove loose plaster ...pva exposed lathes ..then apply BONDING COAT plaster ..and then skim ..or remove all plaster ..and board over ..the upright studs will be spaced at 16centres ..scrim the joints and plaster with BOARD FINISH

Q:there are a lot of mice in my area, my cats are forever catching and killing them. my neighbour has had them inside her house (she has no cats). last night both my cats were upstairs, staring at the wall. i put them out when i went to bed and then heard all this scratching in the wall behind my bed. its a plasterboard wall filled with insulation and doesnt lead anywhere else, unless they've chewed their way thru the ceiling or chipboard floor. why on earth wud mice come in when they cant get food??? and how the heck do i get them out without making holes in the wall?: It's probably just because they're looking for somewhere warm and safe. They're obviously not the SMARTEST animals, so they don't connect that cats live inside the house, only that there are no cats inside the walls. You should probably call a professional, I wouldn't try getting them out myself.
