Q:Does a layer of snow on my roof provide insulation?
I mostly shows that your home is well insulated and not loosing heat through the ceiling to melt it. Think of an Igloo made of packed snow. It can be kept at a temperature just below freezing so that it will not melt and still keep those inside from the 30-60 below outside.
Q:once we have insulated our attic roof,is it ok to use plastic cladding over the top of the insulation,?
i think it might be able to pass code if you ever sell the house.i myself would use sheets of white wainscoting.also make sure the insulation if it has a paper backing ,paper faces the room.
Q:loft conversion- how do i stick insulation foam to the inside of the roof?
Steel spreaders may be cheapest (as described in other answer) but many roofs have shingle nails sticking out,a couple dabs of caulking, glue, you're done! Be sure anything you use is compatible with your foam, some will just MELT it. Good Luck! DrJ
Q:how can I insulate a ceiling that has an aluminum roof?
Spray on expanding foam is best, paint on radiant barrier may work, blow in insulation in attic (cellulose or fiberglass) or put 12"x12" Styrofoam ceiling tiles on the ceiling, they look decent and not to expensive, installs with latex adhesive or staples. Good luck
Q:Tax Question: Itemized receipt for roofing and insulation?
The roof would not be a tax deduction because it was part of your living area already and this is ordinary maintenance. But the insulation could have a local rebate or a general rebate involved.
Q:Can anyone recommend a good roof insulation company in Phoenix AZ?
Blow in insulation is so easy and cost effective, do it yourself. Machines can be rented at Lowes, HD, etc where you buy the material.
Q:Can I put insulation on top of my roof and then roof over it with metal roofing?
The only downside I see is your miscalculation about the length of the screws need. Lets see, 2 inches of insulation, 3/4 inches of furring, leaves you with a solid 1/4 inch of bite, and we all know that the first 1/4 inch of the screw is meant for piercing, not holding. So plan on 4 inch screws, because you still need to penetrate the old roof and bite the structure. Don't forget to plan your drip edge which now will have 2+ inches of roof thickness to carry the rain water over into your gutter.
Q:Should a two story home have insulation under the roof in the big closets ?
Any and all insulation helps wherever you put it! =)
Q:We are putting a tin roof cap. Do we put some sort of insulation/stripping under the tin roof cap?
Those foam strips they sell you to go under the ridge caps will eventually dry out, blow out, and be hanging all over the place. Caulking won't fill a 5/8's gap to keep the wind/rain out, and tar has no place whatsoever on a metal roof, you'll get it all over everything, and either one will look like ****. The best ridge cap has to be custom made and cut to fit. I use a 12" wide X 10' strip, bent in half to pitch, and then turn down 90 degrees on the edges, whatever the rib height is, usually 5/8". Hold the ridge cap in place on the ridge and mark where the ribs are, then notch out for the ribs so that the cap sits flush over the ribs and down on the flats, punch holes and screw down thru the tops of the ribs. It's a little time consuming but it makes for a good looking finished product that won't wear out.
Q:does insulation prolong life of a roof?
no. attic ventilation can do this
