Q:We just had a new roof put on, and alot of insulation. I am now afraid that our house is going to get very?
Insulation stops heat from being transferred across it. Therefore, if it's cold outside and warm inside, it will stay warm inside because the heat can't get out. Likewise, if it's hot outside and cool inside, the heat can't get in so it stays cool inside. The exact same principles are used in vacuum flasks that keep coffee or soup hot. If you put cold drinks in there, they will stay cold instead, even on a hot day. The principle used in both cases is to stop heat from being able to travel to or from the inside to the outside. In a vacuum flask, they achieve this by using a double walled flask and sucking out all the air (leaving a vacuum). In a house however, it's not practical to do this (except for windows which is how double glazing works) so they use some sort of substance that traps large amounts of air in it (like fibreglass or polyester batts) to achieve the same effect. Hope this helps. TV
Q:Does a layer of snow on my roof provide insulation?
Yes, it does. It also shows that you are not losing heat and that you are well insulated.
Q:Heat/Moisture insulation on metal roofing?
welcome to the wonderful world of cheap, temporary roofing. you've just described a metal roof perfectly. bob, tell em what he's won! a lifetime supply of more bad decisions! also, the ugliest roof in town! but best of all, everyone who drives by his home will know he's a bandwagon kind of guy, he doesn't educate himself and do what's wise, he does what everyone else is doing! can't wait till that crowd finds that cliff they've been lookin for!!!
Q:loft conversion- how do i stick insulation foam to the inside of the roof?
Steel spreaders may be cheapest (as described in other answer) but many roofs have shingle nails sticking out,a couple dabs of caulking, glue, you're done! Be sure anything you use is compatible with your foam, some will just MELT it. Good Luck! DrJ
Q:Insulation on attic roof?
Most attics are vented, so I'm not sure how effective that would be.
Q:Best roofing insulation to keep warm in the winter?
Aluminum is a good resister to thermal flow, but its primary characteristic is to stop the transfer of air. A solid barrier of aluminum will stop air movement, and will reflect heat back. A drawback is that it must be installed in a way so that no air can move through any cracks. Blown in fiberglass is your best bet. Trapped air is what insulates a space. Cellulose settles with gravity after a period of time, the fiberglass does not settle, traps more air, and can have a resistance value of up to 33. A well-insulated attic will keep you warm in winter, and keep the hot attic air from infiltrating your home in summer.
Q:how can I insulate a ceiling that has an aluminum roof?
With Reynolds wrap.
Q:best way to insulate conservatory roof?
I got mine insulated by a company - insulated conservatoryes. It's good stuff, and works
Q:Are flat roofs the best roof structure for insulation?
No, it really does not matter what type of roof as long as the insulation is well done. But of course in a flat roof it is easier to reach all the points with ease whereas in sloping roof some areas may be inaccessible. But, with blow-in insulation that is not a big problem.
Q:on a traditional pitched roof construction, where is heat insulation usually provided?
The insulation is always placed in the rafters, leaving the rest of the attic space ventilated. That's why it's so important to cover every opening with screen to keep birds and animals out.
