- they are used to balance the center of gravity of the wheel. if you have a dented rim, or a rim with some sort of weight effecting blemish, they add a counterweight on the opposite side of it to equal it out or balance it so the wheel doesnt rumble or shake the car. you usually dont feel anything but it could effect treadwear on your tires over time. the weights are usually on longer than 1inch long and snap right onto the lip of the rim. if you ever take your car in for a tune up, they usuallyrotate and balance" your tires. the balancing part is checking to see if they need to add or take away any weights off your rims. hope i helped!
