Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.
- Q: In a popular lecture demonstration, a cylindrical permanent magnet is dropped down a long aluminum tube as shown in figure 1 belowNeglecting friction of the magnet against the inner walls of the tube and assuming that the tube is very long compared to the size of the magnet, will the magnet accelerate downward with an acceleration equal to g (free fall)? If not, describe the eventual motion of the magnetDoes it matter if the north pole or south pole of the magnet is on the lower side? I know that the magnet will not accelerate with an acceleration equal to free fall, but I am unsure about the other components of this question.
- I just want to say that Snuggies are the most disappointing thing I have seen in a long timeI thought it was like a monk robe but it's not, it opens in the backHow stupidIt is like a robe, 100%, but much MUCH cheaper quality (I didn't buy one but felt one that was at Bed Bath and Beyond - which now sells them)The material is so thin, it would keep you as warm as putting a flannel sheet over youThey really suckIf you want a snuggie, my advice is to buy a robe that is two sizes to big and wear it backwardsThen, it's your snuggie, but it doubles as a robe so you can actually use it for something normal.
- Q: I have an average spatula, aluminum I GUESS, with a black plastic handle, ya know,.Here's the thing, the metal part that touches food has started flaking off, and chipping away, presumably sometimes into the food,I was wondering, if the metal flakes from the spatula are ingested, is this dangerous? Could I die???!?!?!?!?I'll throw the fcker away.LEAVE SOURCES AND COMMENTS!!!
- No, you will not die unless you ingested an enormous amount of the aluminum! Chances are you didn'tI would throw it away though chances are it is getting to oldSuggestion buy a plastic Faberware spatula.
- Q: Currently looking at models from GT, Diamondback and MongooseAlso, should I get aluminum/composite over high-tensil steel? Thanks!
- Please reconsider thisThe size needs of a 5 year old will change very quickly and you will end up buying bikes over and over againBut since you askedFirst, BMX bikes are also known as bicycle motocross and are made for racing in the dirtthey should never have pegs installedYou are looking for a flatlands or freestyle bikeNext, keep in mind that pegs are to facilitate tricks and not to carry his buddies aroundFew 5 year olds have the brains to think about the potential injuriesIf you DO put pegs on the bike put them on one side only, not the front or rearThird, all the brands you mentioned have entry level bikes in your price rangeMost stunt and freestyle bikes are steel- either Chrome Moly or Hi Tensile while you will find BMX in aluminum and carbon fiber composite(though probably not in your price range)Hi tensile steel is the low end stuff, aluminum is next, then Chrome Moly, then comes carbon fiberBy the way, contrary to another answer, both hiten and Chrome Moly are the same weight, but since Chrome Moly is stronger it can have thinner tube wallsLess material, less weightFor $250 you can make your choice- ignore brand names but DO get it from a bike shop (not Walmart ot Target, etc)They will fit him properly and offer service as wellThe VAST majority of bikes are now made in a handful of factories in China or Taiwaneven if they say Designed in the US or Built in the US (of foreign and domestic parts)Finally, make sure he has protective gear and uses itespecially a helmetOne trip to a hospital will be far more expensive than any helmet, and a lot more traumatic for both of you.
- Q: Why did i get the opposite chemical reaction than i was supposed to?Three times i have very successfully and easily used this method to de-oxidize/remove tarnish from my silverThis time, however, instead of getting shinier the silver blackened furtherFor the life of me i have not been able to come up with a reason whyEverything i used to do this was the same as i had previously used (morton salt, armhammer baking soda, boiled water, reynolds aluminum foil, a large glass bowl that had been used successfully for this previously)The silver piece was pure silver and something i had cleaned this way successfully beforeWhat could have caused the piece to oxidize this time but de-oxidize previously??fill a non-reactive bowl with hot/boiling water, line with aluminum foil (shiny side up), and mix in salt and baking soda in a ratio of (1c water : 2tsp baking soda : 1tsp salt -gt; this is the same ratio used previously)Submerge the silver and make sure it touches the aluminum.
- If I had to choose one of these? BushmasterIf I had a choice otherwise? SKS or AK Also, you may end up hating the red dotI bought one once and still stuck with irons since.

- The possible problem with air dry clay for this use is that it gets its strength from a binder added to the clay material and having hot material (and smoldering incense is hot locally) might release fumes from heating/burning the on the clay surfaceYou might be able to insure no added odor with a small area of aluminum foil where you lay the incense to spread the heat And some air dry clays are organic (made from flour/corn starch, etc.) and will have more problems that earth clay/binder mixes.
- Q: like can i do the baking soda and aluminum foil!! its not dirty or anything its just needs some shiningor with toothpaste tips would be needed!!
- ran into that problem a while back.this will sound weird.but if you get a dryer sheet.doesn't matter what brand, just the kind you thrown in the dryer with your clothes.use that as a wiping cloth and you'll get a good shine without messing up the metal
