Q:I will be replacing my water pump tomorrow and my question is can I use copper spay gasket to spray on the water pump gasket?it this stuff good?99 ford explorer 4.0 ohv with 144k,mileshere is a pictures of the product.
Sure, why not? Usually, the metal area when most water pumps are bolted too are cleaned with a scraper of some kind and old gasket matter is removed. That surface should be cleaned, flat, and free of irregularity. Most mechanics, if they use any kind of stickum - like contact cement from a tube, or the costlier, but not-needed specialty sealers, is applied to the pump surface so the gasket stays put and not move when installing the bolts. The glue does not do any actual sealing, just the fiber gasket will. None needs to be applied to the engine side that you scraped clean. Make sense to you? It's probably a good idea to service the cooling system with a non-caustic flush cleaner before hand -since all the coolant will come out during the change. Then add a additive that neutralizes acids with the new anti-freeze.
Q:i have well water. suddenly i'm getting more pressure in my water. I have a well siofterner system. does anyone know what could be causing more pressure to come out from the water?/ thanks alot.
too much pressure in your pressure tank bleed some air out. reset pressure.
Q:How can I test to be sure my water pump is working before I go to the lake and burn up my motor. `72 65hp johnson. thank you.
You have essentially two correct answers, but looking at the year of your engine I would like to add some clarity. If memory serves, the 1972 engine doesn't have what we today think of as a tell-tale. Meaning that nice little stream of water that comes out of a tube on the starboard side of the engine. Using my poor memory I believe there is and exhaust port, usually one or two outlets together, centered in the rear of the engine, just below the fiberglass engine cover, maybe a little lower. And again, if memory serves, water doesn't flow in a stream from there, but kinda comes bubbling/spraying out. This will be the place to check for exhaust water, and whether or not the impeller is working. Also, like the idea of using the earmuffs, just in case there is thru-hub exhaust you can see it also. If the hub is in the water you can see it exhaust water.

Q:89 Dodge van overheats, no water leak, replaced thermostat but still overheats.
A water pump shows signs of dripping through whats called a weep hole on the underside of the water pump.
Q:I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex sedan with about 105k miles. Sometime before 110k I need to get the timing belt replaced. At about 95k my mechanic asked if I wanted to replace the timing belt and the water pump. According to the owners manual the timing belt must be replaced, but it simply says check the water pump.I don't want to pay for unnecessary repairs, but I also know that both of these jobs are quite involved, but can be done together fairly easily. Is there anything I can do to check myself or do I just have to trust my mechanic when I take it in. Also, what is the cost difference between the timing belt job and adding in the water pump at the same time?
i would if i were you. that way you will know everything is good shape. besides a pump don,t cost that much.
Q:94 f150,302. my pump is still leaking after doin the job twice. its a new pump, the first time i used the red silicone between pump and plate, both sides of gasket, and the housing on the block. leaked. then did it again with high tack gasket cement and still leaks. i cleaned all metal both times with brake clean before installing. same with thermostat housing, small leak. ive done 100s of pumps over the years,no problems, so please no rude remarks on mechanical ability. what could it be? it leaks up front of the motor above the crossmember where ya cant actually see the leak, its not a freeze plug. bolts are torqued. any ideas ? thanks
It's not the pump that's leaking. The water ports to the pump pass through the aluminum timing cover, over time the aluminum corrodes and leaks between the block and the timing cover. You need to remove the whole works and replace the timing cover, may as well do the timing chain since you're in there.
Q:No water will come out of any faucet in the whole house and I do not know what to do, if I need a whole new pump/tank or what could be causing this please help
Sounds like you have a jet pump, the kind with the pump above ground? If so, the motor to pump seal may have gone bad, those are ceramic, and you can look at a new one compared to an old seal, and see no obvious difference. You may have a slight leak in one of the lines or hoses there at the pump, or close to it. You may have simply lost prime, which can happen if you have a small leak or if the water table drops. If you are able to prime the pump, it may take off and start pumping water again, but you may need a technician to come repair things, depending on what is wrong. Oh yeah, turn the [pump off, don't let it run and do nothing, because the seal will overheat! -Saw another poster answered you first, (I type slow) and he gave you more info than I, sounds like they used to work on them too. good luck.
Q:What's the function of the engine pump?
Random occurrence of Internet cafes; on; come; time; two ah is a few karma; feeling ah; ah, just
Q:mechanic says the bearings are going on the pump, and they might as well replace the thermostat while they are there.my question is he right?do they have to remove the engine to replace either the pump or the thermostat?seems like a lot of $ for a what should be a simple job ($450).thanks for your help!
ok well the water pump is a pretty easy fix if you pop the hood and look to the left side of the engine you will see your serpintine belt the water pump is the pully on top closest to the front of the car and that is prob like an hour to an hour and a half repair. now your thermostat is on the opposite side of the engine buried under your throttle body and is labor intensive possibly up to 3 hrs so if i was you, and i had a relitivly new grand am and the bearings were gone in the water pump i would leave the thermostat alone and fix the pump, why fix whats not broke especially if its gonna cost alot. chances are you dont need a thermostat. at NAPA it will cost like 25-35 dollars for the water pump. dont bother with the thermostat.
