Pumps used in the following conditions should be continuously to work properly:
1. For water pumps suitable medium, medium temperature shall not exceed + 40°C
2. The medium PH value between 6.5 ~ 8.5
3. The volume of medium containing solid impurity is less than 0.1%, the size is not more than 0.2 mm

- most likely the pressure switch is stuck/corroded. this is a common problem with on demand type pumps.try tapping on the pressure switch to see if it will work.if the pump is installed properly,the motor should be at the top and the pump and switch will be at the bottom.i consider these pumps disposable. expect to replace it every couple of years.

- The water pump is on the side of the engine that has the serpentine belt. Don't know what it is that you are feeling in the back of the engine but I doubt it's the water pump. But if you feel wetness there, that's probably where the leak is or it's above that part and just dripping on that part. I would look at the heater hoses that go through the firewall and see whether one of those two hoses is leaking and dripping down.

However when pricing these two options even though they would be very cool if you have the large yard to accommodate them, they turn out to cost much more than either 1. or 2. and have much higher maintenance costs associated with them. 4. If it's a very small pond, you can get a solar powered filter/fountain that looks like a floating plastic lily pad. My son had one of these, but it only worked on the sunniest of days, and lasted one summer before wearing out. If you add a large block of filter foam over the intake it may last a little longer. Rinse it out two or three times a week.
