- Q:There is a white ceramic tile floor with white grout in my bathroom. Some of the mastic (I think it was a combination mastic and grout, that could be used either way) is on top of the tile and dried on. Is there any way I can get it off there other than trying to chip at it and possibly ruin the tile?

- I tile every day of my life, and I want to assume these Stone Tiles are at least Milled flat on one side, though if they are RAW, not production glazed, I wouldn't be using them on a counter top. I also don't always use 1/4 inch mortar beads on counter tops, often choosing 1/8, (In the same Tool you purchased). Floor tiles yes, always. That's just a personal choice and not a Law set in stone (no pun intended). You have the correct tool for Thinset. The saw edge applicators, are usually used for mastics/Adhesive tile setting materials, which are also, often used for counter tops, Not very practical for tile or stone. - You could use a self levelling floor screed to cover the ceramic tiles I would try getting a quote from a flooring contractor first as they would do it all in a day and you would have a Professional finish with minimal disruption which would be well worth the cost. If you decide to do it yourself then use the twin pack levelling compound which can be spread with a trowel this will take any unevenness out of the tiles and can be spread 6mm thick feathering to nothing. The tiles will need to be de-greased and treated with a bonding agent first. good luck
- Q:I have ceramic tile in my bathroom and I don‘t like it. It‘s extra slippery and very cold in the winter. Yes I do use a rug but the parts that are exposed are cold. I want to put those peel-n-stick tiles on top of them, but what do I have to do to prepare the floor if it‘s even possible to do this? Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!
- If you are going to be in your house forever, use carpet. If not, do not remove it as it is an asset to your property. If you use peel and stick in a bathroom, they will eventually start warping and lose their grip. I doubt the peel and stick tiles will be any better regarding temperature than the tiles you have now. Tiles are valuable when you go to sell and I would advise you not to change that. Use a rug if you want, but do not hide or change the tiles.

- First of all I applaud your thinking of doing an apprenticeship. A tiler once told me that all you need to know about tiling is 'one on top of another, shiny side out' ! If in UK check out your local F.E. College which usually run a full range of courses in the various building trades. If you want an apprenticeship rather than a stand alone course, why not contact a reputable local builder who may take you on and train you on the job together with a college course. Good luck.

- Try to select such colors which matches the old one so that looks same. If still not working then take help from experienced professionals.

- If you're using ceramic tiles (very regular size and relatively smooth/even back), use a 1/4 square notched trowel, held somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees (vertical). If you're using natural stone tiles (e.g. granite, marble, slate), go for 3/8 square notched trowel and back-butter the tiles. Make sure the concrete slab is clean, sound, free of cracks and level before you start and follow the instructions for your thinset. You'll likely want to use a modified thinset which will help bond to the concrete better. If you have any doubts about the stability of your slab, consider installing an isolation membrane between the tile and slab. Schluter's Ditra system is the best of the breed for this. If you use an isolation membrane, use unmodified thinset (instead of modified).
