- Q:I bought 12 x 12 ceramic tile from Lowe‘s branded as SURFACE SOURCE with a PEI rating 4. I bought each tile for $0.58 each. I want to use the tile for the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and living room. The tile was made in Mexico. I think the tile was being discontinued at Lowe‘s. Thus, I think that is why the price was so low. Did I make a mistake? The tile looks good and feels good so I do not see a problem with. I need an honest opinion.
- its cheaper tile, but lowes discontinues most tile after two years or so. hope you bought enough tile for the job(20% more than you need).

- I would suggest getting a good tile book at the book store or library and reading it. Despite what the first answerer says it is not quite easy. I have probably done 75 bathrooms and while it's not terribly difficult it does take some skill and some planning. Especially around corners and other transitions. As was suggested do not use drywall behind the tile in a shower. Study up and then make a decision. Good luck

- Always tile first and a professional carpet installer will make the transition. You don t say what or how tile is to be installed or even the type of carpet.. So no one can answer your transition question with out knowing how every thing is being done. I do like to use a metal edge to protect the tile edge. But this isn t a transition. - Q:How do you show how to tile the plane?For example, if you use ‘+‘ (the plus shape)Do you merge/group the pluses ‘+‘ together to form a ‘+‘ plus shape again?Is that what tiling the plane means?Also, I am asked to determine all the basic rigid symmetries of this tiling (i.e. all shifts, flips and rotations). This forms a staircase which is two letters wide and one letter drop at each step. these can fit together perfectly. What I described has a natural 2 right-1 down pattern (from center of cross to center of cross) and a 1 right- 2 up pattern. The slopes of -1/2 versus 2 are perpendicular to one another, but do not give reflective possibilities (I don't think). Rotations by 90 degrees and slides do occur and I think these are all possibilities. The rotations can be centered at several points.
- Q:I am a big fan of tile in homes. I really love tile flooring and tiles in shower stalls, as it looks really nice and feels good on the feet lol. Is there any way to tell the difference between a porcelain and ceramic tile by looking at it after it is already installed? Friends of mine have tile in their kitchen on the floor, and I would like to be able to tell the difference by looking at it from an already installed view. This would also help for visiting other homes with tile, to better understand the difference in look and feel.
- Once installed, no there is no way to tell the difference between ceramic and a porcelain.. Side views at a visible cut or whole pc is the only way to tell for sure. Pull up a in floor heat register ( if there is a forced air system) to see... A properly installed tile (ceramic or porcelain) will last the same , so porcelains ( unless a true porcelain and there is a major difference between a trus porcelain and the glazed porcelains most people sell) are over sold to the public. - Q:I am replacing the tile in my kitchen and having trouble getting the old tile up. The tiles are 12 inch squres, I‘m not sure what they are made of, something like linoleum I think. When it was installed it had pre-glued backing and I would like to know the easiest way to remove it. THANKS
- best way to remove the tile would be a heat gun or a propain torch the torch can be dangerous, a good heat gun cost is,nt that much, get youeself a 3to 4 in putty knife and the heat gun and awawy you go , what are you going to replace the old tile whith .???
- Q:I want to replace the existing ugly linoleum/vinyl floor in my bathroom with tile. With the right information and tools, I don‘t see why I can‘t do it myself. Any ideas on the pros and cons of different types of tile? What‘s least likely to get scratched, and what is least likely crack and need to be replaced? Which is easiest to clean, etc.? I‘m not crazy about a rough feel or look to the tile. So, I‘m thinking of glazed ceramic or polished stone. Also, my bathroom is very small. I wouldn‘t need to use more than 35-40 square feet of tile. Do you think 12x12 size tiles would look too big? Any tips or suggestions will be appreciated!
- There are some quite nice ceramic styles but for the classy look you desire i think it can only be acheived with natural stone/marble. it is true that marble can stain as it is porus but if it is sealed correctly it should be ok, but you need to polish and reseal every few years to prevent staining. i fit bathrooms for a living and have taken out marble that is 15 years old that only looks tired because the choice of colour has dated not because of staining etc. but believe me stone looks so much better , go to your local tops tiles and look at the displays of ceramic tile then go to the stone tile show room just to browse and i think you will 'feel' the difference. good luck and i hope the bathroom turns out nice.

- Q:My husband and I put ceramic tile floors in our kitchen, dining room, office, and laundry. We cannot seem to get them clean. I use to scrub them with a brush and bleach but can‘t with a small child and being pregnant. We have tried swiffers (wet jet and sweepers) a mop and bucket, a steam mop, nothing seems to get them very clean, just pushes the dirt around. I need something that will get them sparkling and be easy to do while pregnant, please help.
