Q:installing tile?
you should be fine as long as you put down cement board first. all the home centers carry it
Q:how do i do flooring with broken tiles??
I suggest that you first prep and fill your concrete and let dry. Next you should lay out some tile pieces on an area near your starting point fitting the pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. Next spread some tile mastic over an area equal to the size of the area where you have laid out tile pieces that fit together. Next, quickly set the tiles in the mastic in the same pattern that you had them laid off to the side leaving at least about 1/8th gaps between the tile pieces. When you are finished, scrape off any mastic that does not have tile set in it. Repeat this process until you completely cover your floor. Allow to dry for a day and then fill the cracks with grout. Allow the grout to dry for a day and then do an acid wash to remove the grout residue.
Q:Cracking grout newly installed ceramic tiles?
There are many questions to ask first. How old is the building? Is it still settling? If so: wait until it is done moving before repairing, or you will just end up doing it again. Was the tile installed over cement board, plywood, or what? Each has a different effect. Did you use mastic or latex/polymer modified adhesive or..what.. to adhere it? Is this a wet area application (shower, counter top, etc?). This could be as simple as having too much water in the grout when it was mixed, or too wet of a sponge during clean up. If that is the case, you still have to remove it all and redo it. Just fact-find to learn the cause before you repair it, so you only have to do the repair once! Ultimately, if you paid someone else to do the job, have them fix it. If you did it yourself, go to the library and read every tile book you can find. The answers are out there, but it might take some research to find them.
Q:Dog on Tile's?
lol.. all i can think of is the chikety chickety their little nails make on the tile.. so cute you might consider some area rugs or some runners in the halls just so they don't get cold feet.. but really it shouldn't be too much of a problem if you keep the house warm. Consider... if your feet don't get bothered by the tile then chances are neither does theirs
Q:can you tile over painted brick?
' sure it can be done but the plaster over paint of course could fall off after the paint begins to peel. Its best to scrape off as much of the paint as possible first before you plaster. You might use a paint remover to help make things easier. Plaster will stick best to wet bricks not dry bricks. then butter the tiles on the back and stick them on, however, its not going to be easy, I am afraid, unless the bricks are absolutely straight. good luck on this. You have your work cut out for you.
Q:which size trowel is best for 4x4 tile?
Sorry guys wrong. You need to use a 1/4 x 1/4 square notched trowel. You will not get enough coverage on a v notch trowel. Those trowels are for a mastic( non wet area) and mosaic tiles..
Q:what is a easy way to remove glue down floor tiles?
Wear okorder.com/... you will also need lots of rags and ventilation. I hope you meant vinyl tiles?
Q:What types of tile are durable enough for kitchen countertops?
Rob summed this one up i think.
Q:Tile in my home with young children...?
I have tile in my kitchen that proceeds into a section of the family room. First I would get a textured instead of smooth tile because if their feet are wet or something gets spilled, it is a nasty hard fall. Tile is very easy to clean in my opinion and it does look very nice and adds to the equity in your home. I am not sure I would put tile in my entire house because I do have children (10 and almost 5) and I have had 2 situations where the floor was wet and my son went down hard. So my suggestion is to not put tile in the whole house, but choose certain rooms. There are pros to it, but having children myself it can be a nasty fall when it is wet and someone slips on it. If put in the kitchen or bathroom I would go for a textured tile instead of smooth to help prevent those falls.
Q:How do you seal new ceramic tile floors/?
Ceramic tiles do not need sealing just the grout
