Q:Prime Durock before tiling?
I don't see how priming it would have any advantage. I tiled over some a couple years ago and have had no problems at all. I would think the adhesion would be in question if you are basically adding a layer of paint in between. You don't prime concrete before you lay tile flooring so why would you do otherwise to a cement board? I would ask him for is reasoning behind it. If it sounds like BS and a way to add some time to the job hire someone else.
Q:ceramic tile question?
Hi If you are replacing 1/2 your living room carpet with ceramic tile. What are you doing with the other 1/2? I wouldn't use ceramic tile in my living room.1 resale value. 2 . It's cold on the feet. 3. The looks doesn't sound appealing.
Q:Laminate vs tile flooring?
Laminate is much cheaper and easier to apply than tile flooring. Tile is a better quality and will last longer than laminate. You simply need to pick which option fits your needs and budget.
Q:Question about Space Shuttle Tiles?
The Columbia disaster happened because during launch some insulation came off the external tank and hit the leading edge of the wing, right between the two tiles and damaged the seal. During the re-entry, the hot gases from the re-entry friction got behind the tile and melted the wing structure. A few tiles fall off during flight, but it is not a big problem, less so than during the early years of shuttle operations. If you look at the shuttles, some tiles appear fresher then others.
Q:Bathroom tiles out, how to re-paste it?
Building materials store to sell plastic construction, smear to the back of the brick, paste it can be, I used n times.
Q:Repairing Mosaic Mirror tiles?
I'm not sure if the tiles are individual, or part of a mat. Either way I wouldn't use a chisel because you could damage the surrounding tiles, you could loosen the backing (mirror finish) of the surrounding tiles, and you could even damage the backing the tile is attached to, especially if it's attached to drywall instead of backerboard. First you want to cut through any grout. You can buy a cheap blade for this, or if you have a dremel tool or something similar, they make inexpensive grout removal tips. If there isn't any grout, you'll need to cut through the webbing if the tiles came attached to each other. You can do this with a knife, box cutter etc... At this point the only thing holding the tile in will be the glue. At this point you can gently use a chisel to break the bond. Hold the chisel upside-down, so the back of the chisel faces you and the angle is against the wall. Some call this paring, basically it allows the chisel to ride across the surface cutting behind the tile. Using it the standard way will cause the chisel to dig into the drywall or backerboard. Hope this helps, e-mail with any questions, Alan

Q:Installing mesh mounted glass tiles?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Installing mesh mounted glass tiles? I am installing some mesh mounted 12x12 glass tiles sheets on one wall of my kitchen (behind the stove). I was reading online how to do it and I have a question. Some sites say to put the bottom tiles flush with the counter top and some sites say to use 1/8 spacers between the countertop and...
Q:What is any easy way to cover or change/paint/What Ever to at kitchen tile back splash?
Using TSP (trisodiumphosphate), thoroughly clean the tile surface. The TSP will clean and degrease the tiles. At Home Depot there is paint that you can buy that is designed specifically for painting over ceramic tile. I've used it and it does work, but make sure you open some windows and have some cross ventilation going as it smells very strong and the fumes can cause problems. It is supposed to be self leveling, but being as you are working on a vertical surface, it's best to use thin coats of the paint. If you use any other type of paint, it will come off when you go to clean it.
Q:why does ceramic tiles pop up?
I would say either the wrong substrate was used. Substrate is the material directly under the tile. Chances are he installed the tile over another floor material that was not suitable for tile. Cement board is the most widely used substrate, but it needs to be screwed down properly so it does not move at all. If the substrate moves, then the tile will also work loose after stepping on it which forces it to move up/down. If he applied thin set over existing ceramic tile that was not cleaned, the thin set probably did not stick. Pull up a pc. of loose tile - is the thin set or other adhesive still stuck on the back of the tile? Sometimes the wrong adhesive won't stick to the back of the ceramic tiles. Humidity won't affect the tile if it was installed correctly.
