Theoretically - can, but practically u need to check. You consider the the maximum possible measurable length between the two measuring point, as total length of conductor and take twice the cro-sectional area. In practice length is reducing and diameter is increasing so the resistance will reduce. The diameter will be the length here.

With respect to the wiring instead of connecting wires to a new fixture they need to be capped with wire nuts instead. With respect to the empty area there are two approaches. If the box is neatly recessed in the ceiling then a larger decorative cover plate will do the job nicely. You do not want to use an electrical cover plate for the normal round box as it will leave unsealed edges around it. If the wires are long and the box is short you might adapt to a wiremold box that will include an adapting plate and the external round box that will project an inch down from the ceiling. Then you will need to add the decorative (wide) blank cover plate. Since you are asking this question there is also an obvious suggestion that you might have someone who is familiar with electrical wiring to do this as someone new to wiring might easily overlook something that a more experienced eye will catch.

If the wires are in a conduit (pipe), where they go through the roof, that is an acceptable practise. To have them relocated to go through the wall will be costly, as the whole entrance will have to be relocated. I don't know what the regulations are where you live, but here I would have to obtain a permit from the city then hire a electrical contractor to relocate the entrance. When that is completed I would have to get my power provider to relocate the connection, and they would charge for that also.

Q:Hello.I switched over from a gas dryer to an electrical dryer in our home. I ran 10/3 wire from a dp 30A breaker to a 4-wire recaptacle for the dryer.When I turn on the dryer, she spins but no heat.When I checked the outlet, each hot wire to neutral gets 120 volts but between the two hot wires I do not get 240. I then went to the breaker and checked there. Once again 120 from each of the hot wires to neutral, but no 240 volt reading from one hot wire to another. What would be the problem?In fact, when I check any two hot wires on the breaker I do not get 240 volts. Why? I tried swapping out the 30 amp breaker for another one in the event that it was faulty, but alas, still no 240 volts.

You need two breakers for 240.

Q:I installed a ceiling fan/light combo in my room. because of the location of the switches, the switch that controls the light is on one side of the room on circuit 1, and the switch that controls the fan is on the opposite side of the room on circuit 2. What is happening is that there is only 1 common (white) wire coming from the fan/light combo. My circuit breaker keeps tripping if the commons from circuit 1 and 2 are tied together on the one common from the fan/light. Is there a problem with my fan? Is there a problem with tying 2 commons together from 2 different circuits? Is it my fancy CB? (it's one of those new ones required in bedrooms can't remember the name right now). Thought about hooking up a normal CB tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. Any other suggestions?

Sounds like the feeds are at the switches and the neutrals are carried through to the ceiling box.You have to determine which two are the switch legs(hot). When the switch is on check each pair of wires from the switches with a tester the hot ones are the feeds for the fan and light the remaining two are the neutrals. This is one possibility always check with a local electrician if your not sure. We have already established in the question that one switch operated the light and one operated the fan I cant see the use for a three way.
