Q:We have wood laminate floors in our new kitchen, and I feel like they always look dirty. (I have two young boys, so really they ARE always dirty, but I'd like them to look clean at least when I first mop!!) No matter what I use, they always look dull. I have tried **** & Span, Murphy's Oil Soap, and some other things. All of them seem to leave a film. What is the best way to clean wood laminate flooring to make it shiny? Thanks!

I have never tried it but heard it works great. Put a small amount of liquid car wax into your mop water for the shinny floor result.

Q:in 2002 the old owners of our house had a linoleum floor put down by professionals. it's the linoleum square type, not sure exactly what they are, it's supposed to look "vintage". the old owners told me it's put over 2 1/4" heart of pine floors. (yeah, why??) we'd like to see if we can salvage the wood floors underneath. help!?! (we would prefer to do the work ourselves...)

Lay whatever kind of heat you can on top to soften the adhesive and release the tiles so you can pull them up. After that, you may have to do some heavy scraping. I've done that and it isn't pleasant, but it eventually gets what you want. A good solid scraping tool and a heat gun are good tools to have. A propane torch with a flame spreader tip works good, but don't go wild with the flame. You only want to soften things, not bubble up the adhesive and light the fumes.

This place belonged to my uncle and he had a painted concrete floor as a dance floor and of course we still do. It use to be a car repair place and a cattle butcher place in the past, so the concrete is old, and has oil on it so the paint comes up not very long after you paint it. So..what are my options? Something relatively cheap to make the dance floor more inviting? I would love to know what to use to make it easier on the legs and easier to clean. Thank you!

Q:this summer, my a/c was leaking water causing wet spots on the floor.i used a towel to try to dry but then over the course of weeks my floor began to buckle. i dont know what this is. it may be water under the floor. will this be a major problem? anyone know round about estimates?

First off, we need some details. Is this a floor covering that is buckling? (As in laminate flooring) Or is this the sub-floor that is buckling? (Generally particle board, OSB, or plywood, found under vinyl flooring, carpet, or other floor covering). Dimensions? (How much of the floor is buckling?) There is the off chance, also, that you have a warped floor joist. How much it is going to cost will depend on which problem you've got, what kind of floor covering, and material & labor rates in your area. OSB sub-flooring in my neck of the woods is running about $13 for a sheet of 3/4 x 4'x8'. Plywood of the same thickness and size is running about $32 per sheet. This could turn into a major problem, if you let it go. Mold can set in, and then you'd have a really nasty problem. By the way, that leak from the air conditioner was probably from dirt in the drain line. It needs to be cleaned out, or replaced, before running the AC. Without those details, we can't very well give even a rough guess at the expense to repair it. Call some local flooring contractors to come out and give you some estimates. Ask for, AND CHECK, their references. Good Luck Additional: Ok, I've checked back 3 times now, and still don't see any additional information. n = floor of x x = any real number = 0 % = modulus (remainder of the division between the two numbers) n = x - x%1 Example: x = 2.3 2.3 - (2.3 % 1) 2.3 - 0.3 2 This won't work for negative numbers, as the floor of -2.3 = -3. This logic will result in -2, which is the ceiling of -2.3. EDIT: I saw Ben's answer, and checked google for what mod of -2.3 would be, and it does say 0.7. My first test was with the windows calculator, and it gave me -0.3 as the mod. So as long as the mod gives a positive number, the mod method would work for all values. If it returns with windows calculator does, it would only work for positive numbers. Thank you M$ for giving us a bugged up calculator :)
