Q: I need to use solar panels to charge lead acid batteries in an off-grid application. I understand that solar panels have a open circuit maximum voltage and an maximum amperage under no resistance, and that one can optimize the power output by regulating the load (resistance). If so, is just connecting 2 -volt solar panels to a lead-acid battery inefficient? Are there devices that will maximize 2 volt output power (by varying the resistance)? Am I on the right track here? Thanks for any help.
The answer is actually quite complicated, but if you're planning on building just a very small system, most likely, the panel will be small and weak. In this case, connecting a panel that is 8 volts open circuit directly to a lead-acid battery is probably the most efficient way to charge. There are charge controllers that you can buy, some of which actively track the maximum power point for charging your battery. Unfortunately, those controllers might eat 5 or 0 watts, just to get you another few percent of charging efficiency. If your panel is only 50 watts in the first place, you can see that this is not a good deal. If you're getting serious panels (clue: price $500 each), then you may very well benefit from a charge controller with MPPT (max power point tracking). Lead-acid, either a flooded cell like your car battery, or AGM, are the standard for solar energy storage. Lithium ion is better in many ways, being less sensitive to temperature, state of discharge, and they are also lighter. Charging them is also more straightforward with the right circuitry. The problem is, they cost like $500 per kWh, compared with less than a tenth that price for lead-acid.
Q: How long does it take to recoup the investment in solar panels?
The length of time it takes to recoup the investment in solar panels can vary depending on factors such as the cost of the system, available incentives, electricity usage, and local solar conditions. On average, it usually takes between 5 to 10 years to recover the initial investment through energy savings. However, with the declining costs of solar panels and the potential for government incentives, this payback period may be shorter in certain cases.
Q: I have:4- 5v 200ma solar panels5- 3v ,000ma solar panels- 7amp charge controller- 400watt inverterNow I have all my solar panels linked in series which in theory should give me 35v, 5.8 amps at 203 watts. Is this correct? The main question is, what kind of battery should I get so I can run my miscellaneous electronics off of it?I may not have explained it so well so if you need more information, feel free to ask.
I okorder and they have deep cycle batteries exclusively made for solar panels. but in theory you should get more than one because it only takes around 4-5 volts to charge the battery and you do not want to have it that high even with a charge controller which i would also recommend getting which is like $50 on OKorder but a charge controller is used so you do not overcharge the batteries and fry them or undercharge the batteries and weaken its life it gets it just perfect. it lets the current go in and when it is charged fully nothing goes in an nothing comes out.... for a inverter the one i was going to get was $70 500 watt inverter but changes it from dc to ac...hope i helped
Q: Can solar panels be installed in urban areas?
Yes, solar panels can be installed in urban areas. In fact, urban areas provide great opportunities for solar panel installations due to the abundance of rooftop space and potential to generate clean energy in densely populated areas.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on historic buildings?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on historic buildings. However, the installation process may require careful planning and consideration to ensure that the panels are discreetly integrated with the building's architecture and do not compromise its historical value. In some cases, solar panels may need to be installed in less visible areas or designed to resemble traditional building materials. Additionally, it is important to consult with preservation experts and local authorities to ensure compliance with any regulations or guidelines specific to historic buildings.
Q: okay so i want to know if solar panels shine. ------(MY Q'S ABOUT BLINDNESS DOESN'T MEAN PERMANENT OMG I CAN'T SEE! BLIND BUT THAT WE JUST CANquot;T SEE AT THE MOMENT BECAUSE OF THE LIGHT.)------------------------------like if/when they face the sun is there a glare to the people around?-if there is would the person have to look directly at it? -Could it reflect off of other objects and cause temporary blindness or just shine light in person's eyes?-if there were windows and mirrors near the solar panel would it affect a person's sight?-and if it did for how long would it hurt or take affect?-and is this physics? like-solar panels and how they work is that physics or some other category?
Solar panels reflect less sun than a piece of window glass, and people aren't harmed by the sun's reflection off windows. Also, solar panels tend to be tilted more or less directly toward the sun, so the light that they reflect is back at the sun, not down into the street or yard where people are. Those huge power tower concentrating solar thermal plants have a brilliant light reflected off the boiler. But those are put out in the desert, away from people.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a data center or server room?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a data center or server room. In fact, many organizations are increasingly adopting renewable energy sources, including solar power, to meet their energy needs and reduce their carbon footprint. Installing solar panels on a data center or server room can help offset energy consumption, lower electricity costs, and contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly operation.
Q: . Do they scratch easily? How do I remove snow from them without scratching them?2. What does the upkeep of many solar panels consist of? I want to have my electricity completely off of the grid.3. Are all solar panels made from the same material, regardless of size?
anythign can be scratched/ruined/altered if not tended to properly.... remove the first biggest layer of snow and leave a lil under to try to see first if it melts away on its own (dpeendin what season of course) if not than get some luke warm water and soak the snow.... slosh it off with a rubber shovel or mop.broom whatever wont damage ur panels. anythign you take care of will last longer and take care of you.... and solar is expensive to put in and can be expensive to maintain . depends where you have most sun and depends how many resources you use, if you leave the tv on absent mindely all night and take 50 min showers or blast the heat with jsut on epathetic lil donwpour of rain instead of just BUNDLING UP like a alot of lazy *** ameicans and.or rich careless bastards of course youa re goign to be paying up and out of your asshhhhh-hooooo and nooooo there are some different materials solar panels are made of, there is a main base/core they use but im sure there are AT MOST two...the rest is either glass or plastic! depends for what you want and how many , includign size.... good luck!!!! excuse my typos
Q: What makes them stop working after a while?
You can search on solar panel failure mechanisms for scholarly works. Amorphous silicon thin-film panels go through an annealing, and power drops off after a couple years. This includes most of those flexible rubber mat type panels. That's why those are not used on serious installations. Serious panels intended for rooftop service generally come with a 25-year warranty, suggesting that the technology is more reliable than your washer, dryer, TV, computer, dishwasher, or water heater. One brand of panel had trouble about 0 years ago, but the manufacturer replaced all that were turned in, even paying shipping both ways. It was a problem with that particular model, not the technology. Our polysilicon panels have been on the roof for 3 years, now, and I've seen no sign of wear, yet, either electrically or mechanically.
Q: China is building solar panels and have been for years. That is the most abundant energy in the world. My nieghbor has two panels on his roof and he actually sells energy back to the electric company. These panels cost about $30,000. each, because we don't produce them here on that level. If we did, that price would drop drastically. Other alternatives are also available. Drilling for oil will no change anything. Once you give the oil companie the go ahead, the will focus on that and the alternatives won't be developed any farther. We will be right back here in about 0 years. The price will not go down anyway. So why not switch half of our fuel to alternatives?
I visit hundreds of houses a week in my line of work and there are houses in neighborhoods that aren't the wealthiest that have solar. It might be cheaper than you think.
