Well i am not sure but to my knowledge all i know is that the purpose is to save solar cells which are later created into energy Solar energy is generated from solar panels. Solar panels are slabs of semi-conductor metal. Technically speaking, they are a slab of silicon semi-conductor doped or added with impurities to make it a better conductor. Solar panels could also be made of Gallium Arsenide which is a semi-conductor metal exclusively used in photo-voltaic cells. The silicon slabs are polished and glossed before doping. After processing, for protection, a thin glass layer is embossed on the solar cells slab. Silicon also is shiny and reflects about 35% of sunlight. Hence, an anti-reflective coating is usually applied over the slabs to reduce the amount of sunlight lost. Amorphous silicon solar panels are different from the traditional ones made from silicon slabs. Amorphous silicon solar cells are thinner and more efficient that the silicon ones and also the materials cost of this variety is far lesser than the traditional. Amorphous silicon slabs are developed with superior processes which makes them less susceptible to breakage during transportation. This makes them a more viable investment when it comes to buying solar panels.

You can't really judge the watts for solar lighting the same way you could for dc lighting. This is because of several factors The lights that you showed ARE NOT high quality lights and furthermore; they are not a well-known brand. Also, I would be suspicious of any store that offers lights for less than half of what other stores do. They are dumping the merchandise, which means it could have been sitting around for a while. MAXSA Innovations makes good solar lamps, so does Solar Goes Green. As the other responder wrote, you are better off using dedicated solar spot lights or floodlights than trying to integrate a solar panel into regular solar lights. A 00 Watt solar panel is pretty strong, and you also would need a battery. Unless you know how to rig up the system with appropriate controllers to make sure too much energy doesn't get into the rechargeable battery (lithium ion or NiMH), you take a risk on having the whole system fry out.
Q:i have to do a science fair project and thought it would be cool to make a solar powered vw bus. i have 2 6volt solar panels to power a dc motor that works off of 9v 2v or 8v. i also bought a 2nd motor because the first wasnt workin for us. this one is a 3v motor. ive had them in the sun but they wont work. please help, thanks
A 2V battery designed for a current max of 200mA, can turn on a 2W lamp. If you want to turn on a 2V 200Watt lamp, you need a bigger battery capable of providing 6 amps!! Similarly the solar panel you have can produce a voltage, but when connected to a motor, the voltage might drop to much lesser value!! So apart from voltage you also need to know current taken by motor. Further, motors have a habit of not starting, but once prodded (mechanically rotate the shaft with hand), they may run. If you are in that border area, give a turn to the motor and see.

the Department of Energy has a ' solar hours calculator for locations around the US factoring in hours of sunlight.....the other factor is how perpendicular to the sun the panel is.....as a wild guess I'd say Buffalo's solar hours factor is about 3....which means as an average over 365 days you get 3 hours a day of maximum ( 50 watts ) output. So 3 x 50 x 365 = 64.25 kWh a year. At, say, 5 cents a kWh, you're making $24.63 a year worth of electricity. See why the houses of upstate New York..let alone Ohio or Virginia or Georgia.....aren''t covered in panels?
