- you eventually will wear the blade out. i have seen old guys pocketknives that they used for whittlin and the blades have deep curves in them like khukris from wear. i reccommend, 440 stainless, or something with a rockwell hardness rating above 45.

- Steel cased ammo doesn't obturate (expand against the chamber walls) when fired as well as brass cased ammo does. This allows carbon to build on the chamber walls. Leading to failure to extract. But if you can get steel cased ammo for cheap, shoot it up! Just have a cleaning rod with when you shoot. If tapping the butt on the ground doesn't dislodge the spent case, push it out with the rod. Be sure to use a chamber brush when you clean your rifle after shooting steel cased ammo. I would never use steel cased ammo for defensive purposes in an AR however. The occasional failures to extract make it a bad idea. It's plinking ammo only.

- For throwing knives, 440 isn’t necessarily a bad choice. Does it list whether it is 440c or 440b? That matters somewhat. The advantages of 440 Stainless is that it’s relatively hard (for a stainless), it resists rust significantly, and it’s not so hard that it would shatter or break. On the down side 440 is notorious for not taking or holding an edge, but for a throwing knife, that’s probably not much of an issue. If you’re looking for something to train with, you’re fine here. It’s plenty of steel enough to stick in wood or other targets. Odds are it won't bend if you slam it into some wood. If it lands on concrete, eh, it's going to scratch and all that jazz, and it might hurt the tip if it hits first, but as has been said, you can use a file or grinder to get the tip back.
