Q:I am looking to build an aquarium, I figured if I do it myself I could save lots of money. I am looking to build about a 200 gallon. At pet stores I have seen aquariums approx. this size and they would sell for around $900. I have called local glass companies and gotten quotes for 3/8 thick tempered glass and just the glass is about $1000 dollars. Does anyone have suggestions or knowledge of building custom aquariums, where I could build my own for a fraction of the cost to buy a new one?
Do not use tempered glass for an aquarium, especially one so large. Tempered glass is much stronger than annealed (regular, non-tempered) glass, but it shatters. that is one of the major reasons for making glass tempered. When regular glass breaks, it cracks into large shards that can be sharp and dangerous. with tempered glass breaks, it generally makes a bizillion little chunks that are relatively dull. this is great for some things like glass doors or bathroom shelves. but imagine if this happens to your fish tank....water and sweet fishies all over the floor within an instant. :-)
Q:IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA CAN A STATE GLASS AND GLAZING CONTRACTOR PULL A BUILDING PERMIT FOR A COMMERCIAL OR RESIDENTIAL BUILDING/
My husband is a residential building contractor; I asked him & he said, "No... you need to be a residential contractor or a General Contractor if you want to build a house. If you want to pull a permit for glazing or glass, yes, but if it's for anything structural, no."
Q:What is the glass?
Glass is quartz sand, soda ash, feldspar and limestone as the main raw material, by melting, forming, cooling and curing non-crystalline inorganic materials. It has the general material is difficult to have the transparency, has excellent mechanical and mechanical properties and thermal properties. Moreover, with the development of modern architecture needs, continue to multi-functional direction. Deep processing of glass products can control the light, adjust the temperature, to prevent dry sound and improve the decorative arts and other functions. Glass is no longer just a lighting material, but also a modern building a structural material and decorative materials.
Q:Would you like to make windows white glass is good or green is good? That expensive Looks upscale? Thank you!
Ordinary flat glass Ordinary flat glass with light transmission, insulation, sound insulation, wear resistance, resistance to climate change performance, and some insulation, heat absorption, radiation and other characteristics, which are widely used in mosaic buildings doors and windows, Interior decoration and so on.
Q:What is this wall of glass building material called?
Architectural glass: Humans learn to use glass has been a thousand years of history, but more than 1,000 years, as the development of architectural glass material is relatively slow. With the development of modern science and technology and glass technology and the improvement of people's living standard, the function of architectural glass is no longer just to meet the lighting requirements, but to have to adjust the light, thermal insulation, security (bulletproof, anti-theft, fire Radiation, anti-electromagnetic interference), art decoration and other characteristics. With the continuous development of demand, glass molding and processing technology has also been a new development. Now, new technologies such as interlayer, tempered, ion exchange, glazed decoration, chemical thermal decomposition and cathodic sputtering have been developed to increase the amount of glass in the building and become the third largest building behind cement and steel material.
Q:Can anybody suggest some artist who work relate to building, especially glass building?
Hunh? Repost this with more clarity. Are you talking about sculptors, painters, or something else? Are you talking about glass artists including sculptors or flat glass artists that do stained glass, fused, mosaic, or blasted/etched glass? Many artists do outside sculpture intended to work in relation with a building from landscape, roof, or courtyard.
Q:I'm putting glass Block windows in my barn. A lot of them. I need to build all the openings first. When figuring out my openings I need to allow for the gaps between the blocks and around the edge. What should that gap be?
Glass masonry units are typically square, and are available in nominal 6, 8, and 12 in. sizes. Rectangular units are also available. Actual sizes are 1/4 in. less to allow for the typical 1/4 in. mortar joints. Unit thicknesses are either "standard" 3-7/8 in. or "thin" 3-1/8 in. or 3 in. for hollow units and for solid units respectively. Thin unit panels are typically used in residential and light commercial applications. For exterior applications you will want to add integral water repellents to the mortar to prevent water penetration. If you are talking about what size of an opening to use for your windows. That will depend on what the "rough opening" dimension is based on the window manufacturer. Typically is is 1 in. larger than the window size. This gives you 1/2 in. space all around the window for shims and alignment.
Q:Why construction gypsum, lime and water glass are gas hard gel materials, from their water hardening process to illustrate
Because their hardening process is to absorb carbon dioxide in the air, must be fully in contact with the air is possible to absorb enough carbon dioxide to achieve hardening (calcification)
Q:So in developing apartments buildings what is the best material to use for the building. Like glass, steel ?etc?
You mean for building apartment buildings? It varies but probably is brick or block. Go look at a few apartment buildings in the same city and whatever they are made of is probably the right stuff to use.
Q:except the fact that glass with smash
I'm a bit puzzled by your question since all the materials you metnioned are common building materials. I built a home in the Guadalupe mountains that was practically all glass on the outside walls and the frame was all heavy natural pine timbers joined entirely with wood joinery - no iron or steel in the frame at all. I also built a mountain home in Missouri all out of natural stone collected entirely from the home owners own land. His wife was afraid of lightning so I used steel pre-fabricated trusses in the roof, covered with steel corrugated panels (all heavily grounded of course) and gave the home a 360 overhang porch. It was a beautiful home.
