- Q: After all the great talk about SharkBite fittings and how they are a quick and easy way to fix a water line, I am stumped on the pipe sizes.What happened is when I was in Lowes, I noticed their knockoff brand called GatorBite. It comes in 1/2 and 3/4 like Sharkbite. But anyone who knows about copper and pvc knows that 1/2 is actually 5/8 OD. So, a 1/2 copper pipe will not fit inside a SharkBite fitting. You would have to use 3/8 to get a 1/2 OD since the fittings are 1/2 ID.Can someone clarify this? I tried lining up a section of 1/2 copper to the GatorBite fitting and it was exactly the same size as the sleeve. And the demo display had some pipes hanging out of the fitting that you could pull out for demonstration. The copper pipr I pulled out slid right inside a 1/2 copper line. 3/8 for sure.

- Q: Okay, I am running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional NT..every two weeks, it asks me to change the password to get into my computer. Yesterday, I changed it. It has ALWAYS asked me to verify the password, yesterday it did not. Now the password I thought I typed in will not allow me access to enter the machine. I have tried all the suggestions I received to my previous question (thank you all), and now I am stuck on the User name/ old/ new/ confirm screen.when I type any passwords, it tells me that the old password is not correct. The machine belonged to someone before me, and I have never had this problem before. I do not know how to contact the previous owner.so, can I fix this problem, or has my PC become a very expensive paperweight?

- The easiest solution is to measure the O.D. (outside dimension) of the pipe coming out of the wall, or take the piece you cut off. Go to a plumbing supply store (best) or to a Lowe's or Home Depot. The store salesman will find a pipe with the exact O.D. dimension you measured (to use as a reference only), then match up compression fittings to connect from the wall to a new horizontal piece, then to the p-trap. (What you called a J bend pipe). PVC fittings will be much easier to work with also. Connecting the drain housing to the sink is done using plumber's putty under the lip of the housing and tightening the nut underneath, which will create a waterproof seal. Do not use silicone.

- Paul make sure fitting is dry inside and your using the right flux.A rose bud will work but could burn the fittings if your not careful.Mapp should be plenty of heat for that size.I use propane on 1 all the time.They willnot solder if there wet inside.

- copper is the way to go if doing it yourself. easy to cut and route without the hassel of threading. sweating is relatively easy if you clean and prep the joints properly. buy the coerrect tools and please use lead free solder with flux designed for such.

- If The pipe branches don't have to parallel each other exactly; what matters is that they start and end at or near the same places. You will estimate the head loss (coefficients) for each pipe branch and its fittings, such as the 90-degree elbow you describe in one branch. If the pipe branches end at three separate rooftop tanks, then you may be able to solve using the three reservoir methodology.
