Q:Does a aluminum or steel bike frame usually cost more?
Must add my 2 cents... Steel is not common at all anymore. Far less than 10% around my area, Michigan. I think that is true anywhere in the US anyway. I see far more full carbon than steel with alum being the easily the most common. Steel is a little heavier and compliant than alum. Any material can make a stiff frame if designed and built well. Steel by it's nature dampens vibration more than alum. I agree with mr g, it's an image to be projected. Steel = old school. I don't know why so much posing goes on in the road bike world. To actually answer the question: Both can be very costly. If we're talking about quality road frames, Alum would usually be cheaper. I would say it's a matter of production quantities. There are tons of alum frames out there and only a hand full of steel. Quality steel is a niche market now.
Q:why is copper sheet but not aluminum sheet that becomes the negative pole after putting copper sheet and aluminum sheet connected with wire into concentrated nitric acid?
it may be that aluminum won't react with concentrated nitric acid.
Q:has aluminum sheet reacted with concentrated sulfuric acid?
it can be regarded as no reaction, concentrated sulfuric acid will make aluminum's surface inactivation, and produce a layer of dense aluminium oxide film which will prevent further reaction.
Q:how could i weld two sheets of aluminium together?
May be you can use spot welding. But may be that would not give you an air tight permanent seal. So,you can go for Hydraulic pressing as in FERRARI 599 GTO's exhaust.(QUITE EXPENSIVE to be done at personal level)
Q:Aluminum wire (electricians or really experienced people only please).?
yes aluminum wire is susceptible to stress and braking but only if there is a stress bend or over twisting the wire. As long as you aren't stressing the wire ie: bending repeatedly where it's tacked down or over twisting the ends (which will break on copper as well) then you shouldn't have any problems. just be sure to support any heavy fixtures as the weight can stress the wire. I hope this helps
Q:What chemically happens when aluminum reacts with anthocyanins?
Two factors affect the color in Hydrangea macrophylla cultivars: soil acidity and the presence of aluminium in the soil. To obtain a blue hydrangea, aluminum must be present in the soil. The pH of the soil should be low (4 - 4.5). In alkaline soil aluminium is tied up. The plants are unable to absorb the existing aluminium and the flowers will not bloom blue. Also, when aluminium in the soil is used up the flower color will be red or pink again. If the soil is watered with aluminium salts aluminium is accumulated in the petals and the color turns blue. Only red and pink colored Hortensis are suitable for the breeding of blue flowers. They contain the dye component delphinidin. At the end of this site you find explanation and the formula: www.uni-regensburg.de/Fakultaeten...
Q:aluminum hydroxide is a acid or base?
anything hydroxide is basic (it refers to the OH-) pepsi has citric acid in it, therefore it is an acid vinegar is acetic acid, and is therefore acidic ammonia is certainly a base and aluminum hydroxide is basic (see above)
Q:Can just aluminum be lifted by a magnet? Just a plain aluminum gutter nail for example?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Can just aluminum be lifted by a magnet? Just a plain aluminum gutter nail for example? To rephrase- in our physics class we found that a simple bar magnet wouldn't attract to an aluminum gutter nail, but our teacher told us to find out whether or not any magnet could lift up the aluminum material. If you answer please give a reference or source, or at least an idea on how to go...
Q:When you mix sodium hydroxide with water then add aluminum hydrogen gas is given off, is this from the water?
Aluminium does not normally react with water because of a surface coating of the highly unreactive Al2O3 that forms on exposure to atmospheric oxygen. In the presence of strong base, however, this compound dissolves due to complexation by hydroxide, similarly to how silver chloride dissolves in ammonia. Al2O3(s) + 2OH-(aq) + 3H2O(l) ----- 2[Al(OH)4]-(aq) Once this has occured, aluminium metal, a very strong reducing agent, is exposed to water. 2Al(s) + 6H+(aq) ----- 2Al3+(aq) + 3H2(g) Even though the solution is alkaline, there is still a low concentration of H+ formed by the autoprotolytic dissociation of water. The Al3+ formed then reacts with hydroxide to produce more [Al(OH)4]-. Yes, the hydrogen gas is from the water.
Q:What is the causes of aluminium discolouration?
Aluminum oxides may appear in different colors depending on hydration states and other variables. Look in a CRC Handbook of Chemistry Physics if available for aluminum compounds and their colors. The colors that you see may also have as much to do with the surface finish as the color of the material on the surface. A microscopically rough surface will appear dark next to a polished surface due to light scattering. I will agree with Ling in principle, but not on details. EDS detection limits on homogeneous samples can be better than 0.1%, although not so good for elements at the light end of the detection range. Current detectors can detect chlorine (a common culprit for aluminum discoloration) at about 0.1%. Your problem with detection and one that Ling has addressed previously may be that a thin film of contamination would not be easily detected by EDS. As Ling suggests, SIMS is a good technique for detecting thin films and low concentrations. The problem with SIMS in this case may be that the detection limits are too good and the technique cannot be quantified. SIMS would detect 2 ppm of chloride and you couldn't tell for sure whether it was 2 ppm, which is probably not an issue here, or 2000 ppm, which would be significant. I would suggest x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA or XPS) as an alternative for further study. The technique will analyze thin films (20 A) and detection limits are good enough (about 0.1%). In addition, XPS will give you information about the compounds present, e.g. whether the oxygen is aluminum oxide, aluminum hydroxide, etc. Good Luck.
