- If the tube shrinks, water must be going out of the tube, and this must be occurring because there is a concentration gradient across the tubing. However, both sides start with distilled water, so the water on both sides should have the same (low) amount of dissolved substances. Presumably the shrinkage is occurring over a period of hours or days? My guess would be that something is getting into the water in the cup - this could be dissolved matter from floating dust or bacteria, but more likely are gases from the air. Distilling water would degas it - oxygen, nitrogen, and CO2 would be removed. However, these gases, most significantly CO2, will redissolve in the water if it is left in air (carbon dioxide dissolves to make a solution of carbonic acid). In addition, any contaminants that persisted through the distillation would be concentrated when the cup water evaporates, though this is likely to be a small change due to the high purity of distilled water. You are correct about your second question.

- Just take off a piece of the tubing and take it to your local auto parts store. I'm sure most stores will have something there that they can match it up to. Most of the time these guys are very help full especially to the females, if you tell them your predicament and show them what you have I am sure you will find that most are more than willing to help out. It wouldn't hurt to wear something low cut either, wink wink...

- Perhaps you mean 0.5 inch square. that is 0.5 x 0.5 Some well stocked hardware stores or hobby stores have aluminum and brass (oh yes and plastic, now that I think of it) tubing in round, oval and square cross sections. I have seen some in multiple sizes that telescope nicely inside each other.

- I use E-6000 clear glue for almost everything. I am a sewer and needed some weights so I used this glue on huge metal washers putting two of them together for more weight. I have had these weights for quite a few years. The trick to this glue is to let is set. According to the label is it flexible, paintable, non-flammable, waterproof, safe for photographs, etc. I would suggest not using this in an enclosed area for any length of time. - Q:I need it for a science experiment.It has to be thin and bendy/flexible, and not that long.Don't get confused with PVC piping, that's like 10 feet long, what I need is basically the same length as a straw, except it has to be bendy all the way.Regular straws don't work because I need to bend it 3 times, and still have the air flow through, but when i bend it, it's really tight and doesn't work.I need something like those plastic straws on juice bottles that can bend where the drinking part is, except something like that all the way through.If anybody could tell me where to get it (I only need one but will buy it in packages if the price is not too large) , or link me the website of the product, it would be greatly appreciated. - I worked with 1/8 Plexiglas, and I cut it with my scroll saw. I needed to use ultra-fine saw teeth to do the job. Two problems happened. First, when the saw blade was set at too high a speed, it melted the Plexiglas. This also happened if I did not move the Plexiglas fast enough. I had to have the top vibration clamp fairly close to the Plexiglas to stop it from jumping up. Before I realized this was necessary, I split 2 pieces. My project was see through drawer fronts for merchandise display. I had to predrill the holes for the screws to mount the fronts into the wood sides. I used masking tape on the area that was to be drilled to protect the Plexiglas surface. I still had breakage. Next time I do a project of this type, I will use thicker acrylic.
