Q: spruce up by stenciling on them. What sort of pre-clean should I do and what sort of paint will stick to a heavy plastic blind?
Blind or shade? Wash with TSP if its a blind, and use any paint you want, preferably stencil paint. Forget it if it's a shade. Paint will not stick to flexible plastic permanently
Q: Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
It does help. If it covers the whole frame then it should eliminate draughts. If it only covers glass then it will work better with an air gap since air is an insulator
Q: I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,
if you are on budget they work very well. it seals up the windows and stops the drafts from coming in. i used them in my 1st home until i had $ to replace windows . you will definitely notice the improvement after installation .
Q: Can you get an electrick sock when you slum the door of your car and touching the rubber/plastic where the window holds on to? isn't plastic an islulator?
Yeah plastic is an insulator but In this case it store potential charge in to it, when a conductor comes in contact (you) then it releases the charge (as the charge flows from high potential to low). So it can give a shock. It is very obvious to ask where from this charge get into the Plastic?? Have you ever rubbed your plastic scale and then take it closer to paper bids? (it is weired, isn't it? ;) ) If not then do it right now. the plastic scale attracts the paper bids because it has got some potential due to RUBBING. I think you got your all answers..... :) Hope it helped.
Q: I am moving with my family into a house that has large plastic skylights. The trouble is that the former tenant told me that a they are very thermally conductive and contribute to astronomical heating and cooling bills. I spoke with a contractor about it and he said tinting would be the only way to go because normal plastic insulation film wouldn't stick on the windows as they are themselves plastic. But I don't want to tint the windows and lose the lovely light. Does anybody think the plastic film would work or have any other ideas? Thanks for any help you can give!
You can use indoor plastic kits. They contain sheets of plastic film, which looks like cling-film, but is slightly thicker. The kit also comes with double-sided tape, and you use this to tape the wooden framing (around the window pane). You then cut out the plastic to fit the size of your window frame and fix it to the tape. Finally, you blow a hair dryer on the plastic, which shrinks it so that it is very tight.
Q: I have a 4quot; tear in the plastic drivers side window. Are there any adhesives or techniques to fix it?
None that will look nice. You could use a thick clear tape however it will look ghetto.
Q: Is there a way to get the plastic windows on my convertible clear again without replacing.?
maguiers makes some stuff called clear plastic cleaner.polish, conditioner all in one its avail at any auto parts store but other brands are avail...that do the same job, they work really good are meant for your situation,,,,$10.00 or less its in the car wax section.......clear plastic polish......try it on your headlight lenses, guage cluster lens, brake lights, adds new life to all plastic lenses.
Q: I am talking about the stuff you tape to the inside of your home windows and use a hair dryer to stretch it tight. It is supposed to keep single pane windows better at keeping in the heat. I live where it gets 30 degrees at night and 40-50 during the day in winter. Does anyone have experience with these products? Which type works best? Mainly, does it really keep heat in? OR does it keep sunlight heat out and balance out to zero help?
Yes, this stuff does work, and I don't think there is much of a difference between the various brands; though some are easier to work with than others. You could also try caulking cord. I discovered this stuff at Home Depot and it works really well, too. You put it over all gaps in the window and frame and smooth it down with your fingers.
Q: I don't know why house windows are made with glass instead of plastic
Plastic is more porous so glass is a better weatherproof material.
Q: well i have a 1992 alfa romeo spider and some idiots sliced the back of the convertible on my plastic window. i was wondering how much it would cost if i send it to a shop and they sew off the old plastic window and sew back on a new plastic window
they can do it --they have to remove the top-remove the stitching from old window and remove window-sew in window- replace top on car--this is NOT cheap but still cheaper than new top=--look for about 400 buck charge--shop all the auto upholstery shops in your area first--talk to your friends -talk to people in auto industry that have used any shops--you are naturally looking for someone that can do the job and do it efficiently and correctly- and at the lowest price==most shops operate on the cheap, good, fast idea--you can have any 2 of these statements--cheap and good not fast--you get the idea
