Q:i have a guitar with three nylon three steel strings. Am i able to replace the nylons with steel strings?
DO NOT PUT ACOUSTIC (steel) STRINGS ON A CLASSICAL GUITAR. Classical guitars are not built to withstand the tension of steel strings. putting steel strings on a classical guitar can cause irreparable damage to the neck, where the neck joins the body and the heel. Classical guitars have nylon strings. Yes 3 of them look like steel strings, but these are actually metal wrapped around a nylon core. Acoustic guitars are metal strings. The wound strings on an acoustic have a metal string core. Classical guitars tend to have a wider neck and are more for classical music, flamenco, finger picking, etc. Acoustic guitars can have lower tension strings put on them (e.g. martin silk and steel) as the guitar can be adjusted to take the lighter string tension placed on the neck and heel. Martin Silk and Steel Strings can also be put on a classical guitar as they have a lot lower tension than steel and they give a louder more acoustic sound.
Q:What is the size range of steel coils?
The size range of steel coils can vary depending on the specific application and industry. Generally, steel coils come in a wide range of sizes to accommodate different needs. The width of steel coils can range from as narrow as a few inches to as wide as several feet. Similarly, the thickness of steel coils can vary from very thin gauges, such as 0.005 inches, to thicker gauges exceeding 0.5 inches. The length of steel coils is typically determined by the manufacturing process, but it can be customized to meet specific requirements. Overall, the size range of steel coils is quite extensive, allowing for flexibility and adaptability in various industries, such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing.
Q:I mean 4 inch thick steel like was used in the WTC buildings, especially WTC 7 which did not get hit by a plane. Can carpeting, desk chairs, water coolers and dry erase boards burn hot enough and long enough to melt steel that is normally made in a blast furnace?
Gavin, the danger posed by steel columns and girders during a fire in a building, is not the danger of the steel melting but of the steel expanding and snapping the bolts that hold all of the steel together. Very high temperatures can be achieved in a building fire because the up-draft caused by the rising hot air, delivers a massive amount of oxygen to the burning carpet, paper and furniture. When a steel frame office tower burns, the heat expands the steel and snaps the bolts. This causes the building to fall-down and not necessarily, burn-down. I am too lazy to look-up the melting point of steel but it is not very high. That is one reason for the columns and girders in steel framed buildings, to be covered in asbestos (which is a fatally toxic material) or magnesium di-oxide.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of electrical wiring?
Steel coils are used in the production of electrical wiring as a core material for the conductors. The steel coils are typically shaped into a cylindrical form and coated with an insulating material. This helps in providing structural support to the wiring and also enhances its conductivity and durability.
Q:Can steel coils be used in electrical applications?
Yes, steel coils can be used in electrical applications. Steel coils are often used as magnetic cores in transformers and inductors, which are essential components in electrical circuits. The steel used in these coils is typically a type of high-quality electrical steel that has specific magnetic properties, such as low core losses and high permeability. These properties allow the steel coils to efficiently transfer electrical energy between different components of the circuit. Additionally, steel coils can also be used in other electrical applications, such as in the construction of electric motors and generators. Overall, steel coils are widely utilized in electrical applications due to their magnetic properties and their ability to handle high currents and temperatures.
Q:A roll of 1 meters wide color steel roll about how many tons?
In general, between 3.5 and 5 tons. Our company uses 0.17*1000 white color steel roll. The weight is usually around 4.5 tons. Different manufacturers will have different sealing rolls.
Q:420 440 1045 or 1065 ive bought knifes with these steel grades and i want to know which one is better.
SAE 440 is the best. Classified as high grade cutlery steel. There are various grades of 440: A, B, C, and F. 440 A is the most stain resistant while 440 C has the most carbon and can achieve the highest hardness (Best edge Retention). SAE 440 Chemistry: 16 - 18% Chromium, 0.60 - 1.2% Carbon, 0.75% Molybdenum. SAE 420 is pretty good. Classified as cutlery steel, it is a stain resistant grade but has less chromium and significantly less carbon than SAE 440. SAE 420 Chemistry: 12 - 14% Chromium, 0.15% Carbon (min), 0 Molybdenum Chromium is what makes the steel corrosion resistant. It also adds toughness. Molybdenum adds extra corrosion resistance and adds hardenability. So you can see by chemical components that 440 is highest quality although that also means more cost. 1045 and 1065 are low quality steels and you should probably never use them for a knife. The 1 indicates plain carbon steel with little other alloying elements. The last two digits indicate how much carbon is in the steel. 1045 has 0.45% carbon, mid-range hardenability. 1065 has 0.65% carbon, high hardenability. So if I had to choose I would choose 1065 over 1045 but the difference isn't that noticeable. Everything I said here assumes they have all had the optimum Quench and Temper heat-treatment for their chemistry grade.
Q:I'm looking to get a track bike/ fixie to ride around the city of Chicago. I've looked at many bikes and they're mostly made out of Hi Ten steel. My old fixie (which was stolen at North Ave Beach) was made out of aluminum (KHS FLITE 100). How big of a difference is it between aluminum and steel? I know steel is heavier but how does it effect the ride? Is a aluminum bike or a steel bike better to get to ride around the bike path and in the city of Chicago?
A steel frame would weigh at most 2 pounds more than an aluminum frame. That would be comparing a less expensive steel frame to a really good aluminum frame. However if you are talking about comparable prices the weight difference would be much less, about 1 pound
Q:When I got my AR-15 I was told that I should get either get Brass or Steel Case ammo and stick with one or the other, I was wondering why? It surely wouldn't damage anything switching back and forth between the two would it? I got steel case ammo and I have stuck with It and probably will either way, I was just wanting to know it I ever wanted to get some Hornady's or somthing like that.
Steel cases won't hurt your AR, they just don't expand to seal the chamber as well as brass cases, causing increased fouling of the chamber that leads to failures to extract. If you use steel cased, clean well, and use a chamber brush. You can switch back and forth without harm.
Q:I have hundreds of pounds of scrap steel... who purchases this steel and what is the price per pound etc. of this? Does someone pick it up or do I bring it somewhere?
Right now, steel is worth $150/ton. Who purchase it? Well, not every scrap yard handle steel, you have to call them up, or look at the company name that has the word steel or iron. But price can vary from each scrap yard. Try to call around. As for someone to pick it up, the scrap yard will mostly charge you a trucking fee and then the price for steel would be lower. But here is another bad thing if you have it pick up. I know some scrap yard are bad...reall bad..they will skim off some weight...a 1k lbs to 2k lbs. Wish you good luck!
