- Q:theres a pvc pipe thats completely sealed in space like 10 meters long and its filled with air. Theres a tank inside the pipe filled with super compressed air. What would happen if the tank released all its compressed air in one direction and flew forward crashing into the front of the pvc pipe? Would the compressed air shooting out of a nozzle suddenly dissipate into the less dense air inside the tube or would it continue to the back of the tube and crash into it. Also when the air tank flew forward, and crashed into the front of the pvc pipe would it carry the pipe along with it, since it has so much more mass than the plastic piping?
- There is a general principle about internal forces that applies to situations like this and what it amounts is that the center of mass can never move. It's like that movie Gravity; in space, a stationary closed system can't make any net motion. If the cylinder shoots off in one direction the pipe will go in the other with equal momentum, and when it crashes into the end, both parts will reverse direction. And the two parts will bounce back and forth off each end until heat from the collisions dissipates all the energy.
- Q:Suppose I take a plastic tube and some insulated wire and wrap the wire very tightly around the plastic pipe so that the pipe is covered with several layers of wire wrap. The wire is always wrapped around the pipe in the same direction. Then we connect the two ends of the wire together. If I then drop a strong magnet down this pipe arrangement, will the magnet fall slowly, or not?
- Not slowly, but it will fall somewhat slower because of an induced current when it first enters and exits the wire covered section of the tube. In the middle section the two poles will induce opposite induction currents (and voltages), so the effect will cancel. But if what you want it to show eddy current effects, the coil arrangement is not a good way of doing the experiment. You want the resistance to be minimal so the eddy currents don't dissipate too fast. And you want the eddy currents at both poles of your magnet to be (relatively independent) and not cancel out in a series circuit. The easiest way to achieve that is to use a simple copper tube. Of course, if what the question is trying to do is to test if YOU understand the difference between the coil and the solid copper, then it might actually achieve its purpose. - Q:Pretty much anything safe a flexible that can be used. Needs to be about 3 or 3.5 inches in diameter. I need quite a bit of it. You know the play places at McDonalds for kids? Well, thats basically what I'm going to do only much smaller for my two ferrets. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find what I'm looking for? I'd like to find something other than PVC unless I can find about 20 feet of it that's flexible, clear, 3.5 inches diameter, and without an outragous price. Thanks so much.
- Why not stop by your local department stores gift wrapping department and ask them for their left-over tubes? (The tubes they have are the ones inside their roles of wrapping paper which are the perfect size for ferrets...I know, I have some myself. hehe) You will sort of look like an idiot asking the employees for them but what the heck!! Put on your best smile and ask. They are free AND they were just going to throw them out anyway. And if this makes you feel better, I used to work at a department store when I was much younger and people would ALWAYS come in and ask for empty boxes and cardboard. Its fairly common. ;)

- Sure can, even if you've posted this in the wrong category. Funny thing about fire... it likes to burn as long as possible so if the flame makes it's way into the tube... you should duck. Don't be foolish, keep your hands, fingers, eyebrows, etc and quit playing with fire.

- Hello, It would be smarter if you didn't use that kind of cage. The plastic tubes fall apart and it's not very safe or secure for the hamster. A Syrian hamster Shouldn't get stuck, but you never know. I perfer to use aquariums with wire lids. They work amazing. Or else get a plastic storage container (square bucket thing) and drill holes into the sides and roof. (don't put the holes to big or close together; cage may crack or hamster may get out). I'm not fond or the critter trail cages, especially those with plastic tubes. I Hope this Helps!
