- Q: Nickel is ferro magnetic in nature. But when it is added with stainless steel, it makes stainless steel non-magnetic. What is the structural changes happened with the presence of nickel?
- Dear Ian, Magnetism doesn't add up or average out in that manner. Ferro-magnetism requires that all the spins align. This is a complex effect and needs a subtle interaction between adjacent atoms in the lattice and their singlet electrons. The distance between the the atoms is what is important. Some stainless steels are ferromagnetic because they have the correct spacing, others are not because the spacing is wrong. This spacing is influenced by the makeup of the alloy. Hope that helps a bit:RufusCat Copyleft:RufusCat
- Q: What is the diffrent Aluminized steel Type 1. stainless steel 409 430?
- Stainless steel 400 Series—ferritic and martensitic chromium alloys Type 409—cheapest type; used for automobile exhausts; ferritic (iron/chromium only) Type 430—decorative, e.g., for automotive trim; ferritic. Good formability, but with reduced temperature and corrosion resistance. Today, almost all bulk metal materials that are referred to loosely as aluminium, are actually alloys. For example, the common aluminium foils are alloys of 92% to 99% aluminium. Aluminized steel Type 1: 1xx.x series are minimum 99% aluminium
- Q: I felt that my nylon strings don't sound as good as steel ones. Is it okay that I replace them with steel ones, even if my guitar is classical? Thanks.

- Q: What are the different coil slitting methods used for steel coils?
- Steel coils can be slit into smaller, narrower coils using various methods. These methods serve the purpose of cutting the coils to suit specific applications. 1. The most commonly used method for coil slitting is blade slitting. Circular knives or blades are employed to cut the steel coil into narrower strips. These blades are placed at predetermined intervals and usually attached to a rotating shaft. As the coil passes through the blades, their circular motion slices through the coil, resulting in the desired narrower strips. 2. Another method, known as rotary shear slitting, involves the use of two sets of rotary shear knives to cut the steel coil. These upper and lower sets of knives rotate in opposite directions, creating a scissor-like cutting action. As the coil is fed through the shearing blades, the sharp edges of the knives slice through the coil, producing the desired narrower strips. 3. Sliding shear slitting is yet another method utilized for coil slitting. This method involves a stationary upper knife and a moving lower knife to cut the coil. The lower knife moves back and forth across the coil while the upper knife remains fixed. As the coil passes through the moving knife, it is cut into narrower strips. 4. Crush slitting is a less common method employed for coil slitting. In this method, the steel coil is fed through a set of rollers equipped with blades. Although the blades are not sharp, the pressure exerted by the rollers crushes and fractures the coil, resulting in the creation of the desired narrower strips. 5. Laser slitting is a modern and precise method used for coil slitting. It utilizes a laser beam to cut through the steel coil. The laser beam is directed onto the coil, and its high intensity melts and vaporizes the steel, creating a narrow slit. Laser slitting offers high accuracy and a clean cut, making it suitable for specialized applications. Each of these coil slitting methods possesses its own advantages and limitations. The choice of method depends on factors such as the type of steel, desired strip width, production volume, and required precision. Manufacturers select the most suitable method based on their specific requirements and the properties of the steel coils they are processing.
- Q: What other metal is used to make rings? My girlfriend is allergic to stainless steel, but she wears a silver/grayish color ring, but I'm not sure what metal it is. Any ideas? Thanks!
- Silver, white gold and titanium are quite common.
- Q: hey therejust wondering about changing nylon strings to steel strings...i have an acoustic guitar and it has nylon strings, but i was thinking about switching to steel strings, as i think it sounds better.this might sound really stupid... but is that possible? i mean they call it a steel stringed GUITAR and nylon stringed GUITAR, so if i wanted to switch would i have to get a whole new guitar? please help, im reaaally confused!thanks
- Steel strings can't go on nylon stringed guitars. So, yes, you have to buy a new guitar.
- Q: I play the guitar and recently found a new type of a guitar called the steel guitar, I don't want to play it or anything it's just I've never seen anything like it before and wonder what the function of it is and what are the differences to a classical guitar

- Q: for a roof spanning 14.4m x 8.4m on a residential house, is it better to use timber trusses or steel trusses? the priorities are; ease of construction, price, insulation (want to keep heat out, i am in a tropical country), durability, flexibility, minimal load on foundations.please help. thank you :-)
- How about another option - Steel Re-inforced Concrete Beams. Beam planks would span 8.4 metres but to keep the cost down have an I beam support at 4.2m. Concrete is great. It goes on quick, is sound proof, (very nice when it rains or for road traffic), can have gravel laid on top to act as a heat sink for winter sun and can be covered with normal roof steel if you want to hide it. Its also rust and borer free. While you would need good supports for the front and back, although with an I beam you can have a floating front, it is not much more than what is required for a wooden top. Design it right and your roof could be a future floor for the next addition.
- Q: More specifically steel wire (around 1/8 diameter). I'm doing a science fair project where I'm testing if concrete encased in steel has more fire resistance than steel by itself. However, I have no idea what the dimensions of concrete encased steel is so I can't scale down. And if I did have the dimensions I wouldn't know how to encase it around the steel wire (do I just poor concrete over it (heck I've never even used concrete)? Thanks for any help.
- If you're designing this structure, I recommend not filling it with concrete. It will do very little for stiffness (steel is 7-8 times stiffer than concrete), almost nothing for strength (unless buckling of the steel cylinder is an issue), and will add lots of unnecessary weight.
- Q: I want to make a stock removal knife, but I am really confused about what steel to use. I am just a beginner but I read o1 steel is great? Also I am kind of on a budget.
- 01 tool steel is easier to work with. You need to contact places like Pop Knives and Supplies out of Washington, Georgia or Sheffield Steel out of Florida, I made custom knives for years with my husband. Made alot with ATS-34 Stainless. Look at links on my website source.
