- Q: I purchased a DIY tile backsplash kit which costs originally $134.00. Kit includes 15 sq feet of tile, grout and tools needed to install. Lowe‘s sells the kit. The problem is the color is not the color I need. So I have this bright idea to paint the tile the color I want. I only paid $40.00 for the kit. I called one of the paint suppliers and they told me a spray paint I could use for the glass tile, however, I am afraid tha after I paint the tile, install it and then add the grouting, it may take the paint off!. I don‘t know, if it would or not. I was thinking I could spray polyurethan over the tile before I grout it or would that work? Not sure what to do. This kit is a new method for putting up a backsplash in your kitchen. It is actually peel and stick and then you must grout within 2 hours.

- Q: My wife sent me to pick up some used floor tile. It still has the stuff (plaster? grout? whatever?) on the back of the tile. Can this be reused? Do I have to get the old stuff off? It is on there pretty uniformly.
- We lay ceramic tile for a living and yes you can reuse that tile...bad new is that the stuff on the back is thinset and it must be removed and then new be reapplied to set the tile on your floor

- If you have any loose pcs not yet installed the backs can give me clues as to what it is. Along with the year it was originally installed ( approx) and the exact size of the tile.. Any thing over 8/10 years old you may as well look for some thing close in the exact size. Beyond that your looking at reclaimed tile discount outlets looking for dropped tile lines. There is a few places that specialize in buying and selling of dropped lines of tiles. They change and discontinue tiles every 7/10 years to keep up with changing styles and colors patterns. - Q: is it better to rent a wet saw, or will a tile cutter be less expensive and less messy
- It depends on what kind of cuts you need to make. A tile cutter is fine for straight cuts, but inevitably you will have to make some sort of crazy cut that you can't make with a tile cutter. A wet saw can be rented for a fairly reasonble rate and makes the job a lot easier.
- Q: OK here is my problem. I want to switch my bath tub to an all-tile shower and wonder how to do it. So far the tile were set onto a cement board that was itself put on top of the drywall. I am wondering if this is a common thing. From all my research, it looks like tile should be on the cement board, but there is no use for extra drywall behind it. It actually makes things tougher because you need some sort of corner tile instead of normal bullnose since the cement board and the rest of the wall are not at the same level.My second question is: is there an order to do all this i.e. should I make the shower pan (sort of rubber sheet filled with cement), before or after I install the cement board on the wall. Is there a specific angle used for the drain?Thanks in advance for all your tips.
- Here okorder / if you want a tiled floor. I would also have the plumber install a new faucet with a scald protect on it. 3) Install wonder board. Some areas require a water proofing membrane over the seams and screw heads. Its a paint and I cannot remember the name of it. 4) Tile the wall and base. When dry, grout and then seal the grout when dry.
- Q: I‘m installing a kitchen back splash of 1 x 1 glass tile. Right now there is drywall where the tile will be. I‘ve read that it is better to use cement backing board as a substrate. Is this really necessary or can I just use thin-set to mount the tile directly to the drywall and then grout as usual? Thanks for your help!

- Q: Has anyone ever used the spray glaze you can use to paint ceramic tile? I have some ugly green tile on the walls in my bathroom, and I don‘t want to get into busting it out. I saw it used on HGTV, but I want to know if any REAL people have used it? If so, was it expensive? Easy to use? Did it run? I will take any other ideas anyone has for an inexpensive way to do something with this horrible green!
- It's called re-glazing. There are companies out there that re-glaze bathtubs and ceramic tile. A bathtub can cost about $700 to re-glaze. Home improvement centers have re-glazing kits but they are only as good as the applicator. What's more important than the re-glazing kit, is the preparation. The glaze on the green tile needs to be dulled by acid washing. If you go over the green tile with it's slick surface, the re-glazing will peel off...

- I will go with Rob on this one. Yes, it's possible using epoxy-based adhesives. However, unless you have a lot of experience doing this, it won't look right, especially if you are doing walls and have exposed edges. How are you planning on finishing the edges? Have you accounted for the decreased room dimensions? There are way too many variables. Rip it out and start over. There is a good chance that you may have to go down to stud as drywall tends to pretty much get trashed when you take tile off of it. When I remodel a bath and am re-laying all the tile, I ALWAYS take it to stud and start over. It saves time in the long run and in my business, time is money.
- Q: help!! i need an estimate of ANY italian tile... like the cost per sq. ft. i really need it for a project!!! please make sure the tile works for the entire house (only inside) and light colored nothing dark plz and thank you =]
- The cost depends on the choice of tile and the application ( if your talking about insatlation costs as well). individaul Tile can cost anywhere from 99 cents S.F. (on sale) to several dollars.
