- Q: I just bought a new houses that we will build. The decorator went through the selection of tile and want to charge us $9000 for 1500 sf surface and $6800 for a group 3 granite counter top with island. It feels a little pricy. Anybody have experience with new builder and want to expect for flooring and granite counter top?
- I think the builder usually order the quality granite (made in Italian? or special pattern). If you get the contractor outside, it is much cheaper 'cause they suggest you to use China Granite. It was also beautiful much cheaper. if you don't mind about the hassel, don't upgrade through builder. You can upgrade after that also save $$ on property tax.
- Q: We are tiling our kitchen back splash with travertine tile/ tumbled marble tile.Should we seal the tile before it is on the wall or seal it after it is on the wall?Thank you.
- Seal the travertine after it's on the wall but before you grout. That will help keep the grout from sticking to the tile.
- Q: I clean a church and all the cleaners I have tried on the tile floor, leaving it streaky.. Does anyone know of anything that would work? Thanks!
- 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water will clean it and leave it streak free.
- Q: Figure, I was in the indoor shoot, only two lights 600W1200w, brick surface is not bright matt antique tiles, moved to remove the two sides still have, I do not want to shoot good-looking, is to accurately accurate design printing of. Is there any way? Do you have to be back? Polar mirror ok? By the way, what kind of high-reflective polished tiles to shoot?
- Light source to astigmatism 2. Add polarizer 3. Avoid the light source angle ? High reflective to shoot the texture, make a soft box, just like the eyes of light as the film, if the contrast is too large to use the high dynamic to reduce the contrast
- Q: If so, what do you clean it with? I have one in my kitchen I hate it! I‘m always cleaning it and we don‘t even wear shoes in the house but yet it always looks like it has blackheads! I have used the magic eraser to get the marks off but it‘s a p.i.t.a. :)
- It’s a pain but a stiff scrub brush with hot water and a small amount of soap will get the dirt out. The problem is that you have to do it every week because the groves collect dirt. But don’t use too much soap because when you use the scrub brush you will end up with too many bubbles!
- Q: As in the tile you find as back splashes behind sinks.
- oil based deck paint.also ask at the paint dealers store.they will help you.good luck.
- Q: I‘m installing 13 x 13 cermic tiles. We‘ve laid the tile to try to configure the best layout. However, the one with the best layout with the easiests cuts leaves one very complicated one. The tile lies directly on the air duct, with the cut being a large rectangular hole in the middle of the tile. If we adjusted the layout to have 2 tiles lay over the duct, it creates more complicated cuts everywhere else. How do you suggest I cut this tile?We have only a wet tile saw.

- Q: I will be making a 36 x 36 hearthboard for my gas fireplace stove out of slate tile. Do I need to space them and use grout in between or can I just cement them down next to each other like you would glue down vinyl tiles?
- With a gas stove, Code just requires you don't set it on something combustible. With joints of any kind it is considered combustable since heat can travel through the grout/mortar but wont travel through the tile, so if your going to make it your self, the easiest way is to buy a piece of Cement board from HomeDepot, and glue all your tiles down with Power Grab caulk then fill the joints with grout, other wise it is not code. Just sticking them to the floor does not qualify and if anything ever happens your liable for it, insurance wont cover it. This kind of board won't work for wood though, it would have to be heavier duty. Make sure you make it big enough to meet the clearance to combustibles listed on the back of the stove as well
- Q: I would like to install laminated flooring in my kitchen. Two of the wall are tiled. Is it possible to undercut these tiles or is there an easier method to do a neat installation?
- The box usually has pretty good instructions on it, otherwise ask the people where you bought the tiles. You can use the tiles themselves as spacers between the wall and the tiles so that there is a gap. Just place them on edge. Or you can get plastic spacers from any DIY store. This is to leave room for expansion so the tiles don't warp. You can then cover the gap with floor trim. Good luck. It is fairly easy.
- Q: More specifically, do you lay the tile right against the floorboard with no groat visible? Or would you put a spacer in between the floorboard and the tile so that it you have grout along the edge?
- It is honestly all up to the look you prefer. I for example always remove the baseboards and put a quarter inch space in between the tile and the wall (gives you a seamless result). In doing so, when you put the baseboards back on the wall - any mistakes are hidden - and the job just looks more complete. You can however go the route you are talking about (I've seen it done) - and personally I think that adding a grout line is the way to go - mainly b/c not all walls are square - and the likelihood of you having a seamless edge against the baseboard is slim. Good luck,
