- Q:Do I start in the middle like normal tile? What happens if I don‘t start in the middle due to the uneven wall?
- First, are you sure you want peel and stick tile? Unless they are being installed in a room with little traffic, I have always found they don't last as long as glued down tile. If this is what you want though, here it goes. You don't have to start in the middle of the room. A suggestion is to start in front of your cabinets if doing a kitchen. rooms are not always square, this will assure good straight lines were you would notice the most. If you don't start with the cabinets and use another wall, it may be straight with the wall but look crooked with the cabinets. Next peel the backing, and place tile tightly next to each other. You will need a utility knife to cut the tile next to the wall, and around other objects. for tough cuts, heating the back of the tile with a hair dryer will make it easier to cut. Then I highly recommend renting a floor roller, 80# should do it. The floor roller will assure all tiles are pressed firmly to the floor. roll the roller in one direction across the floor, and then again in the opposite direction.;..
- Q:My home decoration just finished tiles to clean up the tiles when there is a cement with a damp cloth has been wiped out how to do? (My family to buy all the tiles) Will you have nothing to hurt the tile method can be removed? Thank you!
- Cement is alkaline, generally removed with acidic substances. Oxalic acid may not be acidic enough. Pour some vinegar up the effect will be better. Industrial hydrochloric acid can also be used after dilution, but to prevent corrosion of the tile itself. To try it a little bit. If hydrogen peroxide is not used, it is recommended to use stone-specific products, such as strong concentrated cleaning agent, PH value of 10.5 or so. This product can decompose the organic matter on the surface of the stone pollution, and can remove the surface type protective agent. If necessary, the cleaning agent can be mixed with the decontamination powder, which can extend the reaction time of the compound and adsorb the stain to the paste. Before using the compound, first test a small area inconspicuous, such as the corner, and to ensure that the stone surface will not be covered with dark flower marks. Clear the slight scratch operation is relatively simple, the market has a lot of polishing powder for sale. However, the use of polishing powder, most of the need to use a polishing machine or a single rub machine.
- Q:are tiles get really dirty fast and i tried everything and i cant get them to stay white could i use bleach?
- Clean your bathroom tiles with a soft cloth or mop using pH neutral cleaning solution. Always wipe off any spills immediately as they happen. Never, ever clean this floor with vinegar, as you will destroy the finish. Tile specific cleaning products are available.I recommend you Lustro Italiano Cleaner and Polish which is specifically designed and PH balanced for tile Surfaces. Compared to other polishes and cleaners, it creates a deeper longer lasting shine. you can find it in my source site.
- Q:I need matching vinyl tiles for my kitchen floor. they‘re about 18x18 inch. I only need about 6 of them. is it possible to have a company match the design of tile and custom make me new ones, or a company that can match them?
- It would probably be cheaper to replace the whole floor than to have matching tiles made, even if that were possible. Is there a place you can take tiles from, like under a rug, or under furniture where they won't be missed, and use them? You can then replace those you took up with something close, and they won't be noticeable. Another option is if the 6 tiles are all in one spot, and in front of the sink, or stove, you can replace them with contrastin tiles, and have a sort of permanent rug effect. In that case you can use 6 x 6 or 9 x 9 tiles. Another thing you might try is doing an internet search for places that sell discontinued vinyl tile. Someone must buy the remaining stock of discontinued tile to sell.
- Q:Recently, my carpet got a bit singed in front of the fireplace. so, I decided to place tile in front of the fireplace. I plan to remove the carpet and the padding. what will be left is the plywood and 2x4‘s. not exactly sure if there is anything under the plywood since this was an addition and is on top of the garage, where the garage is not underground but has cinderblock walls. when my son jumps around, it kinda shakes the floor.what I need to know is if cement board has to be used. can I just place tile over plywood with the appropriate adhesive? remove plywood all together? what is the simplest method for a single momma with low funds who is not familiar with laying tile? my second inquiry is about finishing it off. I can do the grout easy enough, but what about where the tile meets the carpet? I really hate the cheap look of those metal things, but I don‘t know what other options there are except for folding (?) the carpet under (?). suggestions?thanks in advance!!
- 3/8 drill. square drivers, trowel. grout float several 5gal buckets and sponges. Buy a sheet of tile cement board. its 3/8 thick and a box of backer board screws made specifically for the tile board. it comes in 3'x5' sheets. Standard code is 18 from the edge of the fireplace. I built mine 24 because it looked better. I had to also add carpet strips around it to hold the carpet down. built that part up a bit as well and used a strip of bamboo flooring trim made to hide the transition between wood flooring and tile.
- Q:Not sure it it‘s mold/mildew ot the sealer stripping off. I‘ve used Tilex but it didn‘t work. Even scrubbed it with a stiff brush. Anyone know what this film is and how to get it off?
- Are these tiles applied directly to a concrete floor that sits on the ground? If so, it sounds like efflorescence, where salt moves from the ground into the floor and then through the tile appearing as a white film on the surface of the tile (it happens through basement walls and if bricks are placed on the ground). Scrubbing may not be enough. You may have to check at your local hardware store for a sealer for your tiles or a cleaner strong enough to prevent the film from forming again.
- Q:I am planning on laying some tile today but not sure when it can be walked on. Also, can I lay some today and start again tomorrow? It is in a small bathroom.
- The mortar for tile usually dries in 24 hours and the tile should not be walked on until it dries or the tiles can move. Laying tile can be done over a period of time as long as you don't extend the mortar into the untiled area when you stop. It will harden and you would need to chip it off to start the next part of the job.
- Q:What type, brand and or size ceiling tiles should be used in a commercial kitchen and bathroom
- yes it can be done, lots of people are doing that with copper tiles, it might not be a bad idea to coat it with poly or lacquer so it will be easy to clean, you can just nail them on and clear silicone and gaps
- Q:i‘m thinking about laying my own tile. ( this way i could save $2700) yeah, i know its a pain int he butt. BUT i‘m still going to do it because i like doing my own work. I‘m laying down 24x24 tiles. do you have any advice or secrete or techniques to offer? its a straight edge tile so i was thinking about using no spacers. I was also told to spread thinset on the tile in addition to the cement floor.
- 27 hundred dollars? What the hell are ya going to tile, a football field?..Ok, first I would think twice about not using spacers but that's up to you.. When you buy the tile check for the size notched trowel that's recommended and use it on the concrete floor and flat butter the back of the tile, and use a rubber mallet to tap it firm.
- Q:What purpose does it serve? Is it safe to assume the tile will settle half of the trowel thickness? For example, if using a 1/4 inch trowel, will the tile settle 1/8 inch when set in place? Thanks for any help/advice!
- Thinset cements the tile to the subfloor. The settling depends on the tile, and whether or not you press it down.
