Q:Where can I purchase a power cable for our Toshiba Equium laptop?
It is possible that your cable may have some broken wires inside that are causing your problem, or it may be the board as mentioned above. The board that is being referenced is the power connector inside your laptop and it's connection to the system board. What can happen is the electrical connections (solder joints) from the connector to the board become broken/loose and you have an intermittent connection. I have re-soldered these for friends when theirs go bad, otherwise a replacement system board would be required. I have also seen where the small leaf spring contact inside the connector becomes flattened and has poor contact as well (if this is the type of connector you have). You could check this with a good light and look inside the hole, there should be a center pin contact and a leaf contact along one side that should come down about halfway into the hole to the pin. To test where the problem is, connect your cord to your laptop, now hold the connection very still at the connector and wiggle, twist, push, and bend the cable at various points to see if the light at the front of the computer goes on or off. Now also test the plug at the computer by carefully moving it up, down, around in various ways to see if the light goes on or off. Wherever you find your problem is where you'll need to fix. If it is the power cable, yes, you should be able to buy a replacement. Try Toshiba's website or google the numbers you have to see what turns up. Hope that helps explain things better. Best of luck.

Q:I found my SATA power cable, but can't find where to insert my SATA data cable?
Short Answer: You plug the data cable into the drive on one end (usually a hard drive), and the sata ports mounted on the motherboard. Details: A sata data cable runs between the drive (most likely a hard drive, mounted towards the front of the computer) and the motherboard, which is the huge circuit board that everything else plugs into. If you look at the board, you'll see a section with 2 - 6 little plugs (each about the width of your fingernail, but half the height), with a sort of L shape in the middle of each one. Those are the SATA data ports. Yes, bizarrely enough, they are actually smaller than the power connectors. Near each of this the port number is printed in ridiculously small type, so you may need a magnifying glass or something to read them. Ideally, you want to plug your main hard drive into the lowest port number available, usually either 0 or 1. I apologize if I sound condescending, but I've found it's better to underestimate a users technical knowledge and give them details they don't need than to overestimate their tech skills and leave them frustrated and confused. As for your other questions: Power cables run between the power supply and the drive, so that doesn't necessarily mean your motherboard supports it. However, if this PC is only a few years old, it probably will. If you see the ports I described above, then it does. If it doesn't support sata, you can easily buy a 'sata controller card' for about $30-40 that'll plug into one of the pci or pci-express slots on your motherboard. btw, that model you gave is for the power supply, not the whole computer. The computers model number is usually listed on a sticker somewhere on the outside of the case, usually the back.
Q:Laptop Power cables Dell M1730?
Dell is better than they used to be. Their XPS laptops are not half bad, and their standard cheap ones are good for basic use (school, surfing the web, etc). I find them fun to modify, but that is probably a bit above the level of most general users. HP is pretty solid, Asus is a good contender (I have had a few Asus laptops with no issues), and Toshibas are good for general use as well. I do recommend to you (and anyone who uses a computer) to actually learn basic maintenance and repair for your computer. Saves you money in the long run, and with a decent level of knowledge, you will rarely even need any sort of tech support. Computer basics are not difficult, you just have to take the time to learn it.

This most likely isn't a windows 7 problem at all. It's more likely there would be some damage to the internals of your power cable at some place. Usually if there is, it's in the connecting end or the power conversion box. I would try a replacement cable first if you can. If you don't' have one, take it to a pc shop and see if they can use a test adaptor. If theirs works, it's the adaptor. If theirs doesn't, it's then more likely the power port on your pc is damaged.
