Q:I'm trying to figure out how to make one of those carpet things cats climb on. i have extra carpet and want to make one for my cat.: Not sure what you consider low cost...I've never seen any that I thought was reasonable. Quite a while back, someone posted a link to instructions for building your own. I'm sure you can google that if you're interested. I do have a suggestion about building your own, though. I don't have room or I would be doing this. One idea I saw on Trash to Treasure on Decorating Cents. Take an old desk, remove the drawers, remove some or all of the wood that is under the drawers so that you basically have a desk with drawer holes but empty space inside. Or perhaps you could cut holes in them and put them back....then cover the openings with some sheer fabric, and viola! you have a cool cat tree for next to nothing. The other idea I came up with on my own was to build a staircase. Or better yet, a ramp. Use a tape measure to determine how much wood you'll need - prop it against the wall at a reasonable angle and note the length. (6ft I think was the figure I came up with. Then get a piece of cheap wood in that length - or you could get two pieces and secure them together with L brackets or something like that. Make sure it's at least 1/2 thick or more - you don't want it to get bouncy. Carpet it, and viola again! You have a cat ramp. Be sure to secure it to the wall and/or floor. You could add a ledge at the top - just cut a hole in it so the cats can get onto it.

Q:Someone that moved in with me recently broke the wireless internet adapter to my computer and since I haven't figured out how to fix it I think it may be easier for me to just run a wire from the router to my computer. The problem is that the router is on the xbox in my room and the computer is in my living room 30 feet away. I am getting a 50ft Ethernet cable but I don't want to run it straight across my floor and plan to run it through my basement. I have hardwood floors in my room and there is already a hole to my basement there but my computer is over stretched carpet. I am wondering if I can put a small hole less than 1 inch in the carpet without damaging it or creating a spot that will wear more quickly.: Drive a nail through the carpet where you wnt to bring the wire back up. Locate the nail in the basement, remove the nail. Slowly drill up from the basement, trying not to get into the carpet(it will twist around the drill and damage it more than necessary.) Be sure the drilled hole is big enough for the end of the wire, slice the carpet with a razor-blade in an X and feed it through.

Q:I spilled some dark red nail polish on my carpet. I removed some of it with polish remover, but am afraid to use more because it might damage the carpet. Any ideas on how to get it out.: let it dry, get on hands and knees with good light and use stout tweezers and a pocket knife to abrade the paint off the fibers. If too stubborn for this and you can get away with it, cut into the dried blob with tiny, sharp sturdy sissors, and brush it with a stiff brush. Or cut out tiny blobs without making too much of a big noticable hole. You can also use something like white-out dry-dabbing ever-so-carefully to soften the garish or pinkish leftover.

Our policy is we will try a spot/stain or two (usually the worst) to give you an idea of what the carpet will turn out like. If you don't think it will turn out the way you like that's it we leave. No reputable carpet cleaner will guarantee a spot or stain will come out until they try, because they can't tell for sure until they try. A carpet cleaner can tell if some stains are likely to come out but cannot guarantee it. As an incentive to get your lanlord to pay for the carpet cleaning you can point out carpet cleaning is tax deductable for a landlord.(which is why mony landlords ask you for the reciept, for their files of course, if you get the carpets clean) but thats another story

Q:if i use oxyclean and water in my floor scrubber for a cleaner to do my whole carpets will it work nice?: No. you will ruin your carpets. Oxi works great on a small stain and blot dry. If you want to clean your carpets you need a steam cleaner for carpets. If you leave water under the carpet on the pad it will get moldy and smell. Carpet cleaners suck up the excess water.

Q:I've got greasy dirty black grease tracked on my carpet: Greased LIghtening will do the trick, but, Mean Green is good too.

Q:my brother spilled water on the carpet and instead of drying it up he just threw a towel over it and left it all night. now the carpet smells really bad of mildew. i tried washing it with soap and water and it helped a little. i tried febreeze but that did no good. i don't have a steam carpet cleaner.: The carpet just sat overnight and now smells of mildew? Wow. First you need to kill the mildew. I would spray it with Lysol so that you saturate the wet spot. You need to make sure that the padding underneath the carpet will be clean and dry, so you may even need to lift up the carpet to check the padding. If the water has saturated through to the padding, you need to Lysol that too. Then blot it with a towel to get as much of the moisture out as possible, and turn a fan on that spot and leave it for a couple of days until you are sure it is completely dry. Then work some baking soda into the carpet and vacuum it up.

First of all your cat may a urinary tract infection, very common in male cats in which case he needs to see a vet. If this is not the problem then he may be upset about something or someone. In any case if it's a throw rug, you may try to wash it, but I have found that replacing it works alot better. In the case of wall to wall carpeting you can try one on the commercial pet stain and odor products. Personally I have used Nature's Secret and Urine Gone, which I can no longer find, and follow the directions. Hope this help you.
