Q:Can you overload solar panels with too much light?
Solar panels do not wear out the way machinery does. The semiconductors used give up electrons by receiving photons, and do not experience a net deficit of particles. However, if you placed a heat source such as a heat lamp too close to a solar panel, you could damage the panel by overheating it, which would denature the semiconductors or cause damage by scorching or melting. The problem would be the heat, not the light. Solar panels do have a finite life expectancy, though it is several decades under normal circumstances. The panels will eventually become scratched, warped, and dented. The electrical conductors will eventually be broken by metal fatigue as the panels heat and cool on a daily basis. So they will die of old age, but they don't wear out in an electrochemical sense.
Q:How to maintain a battery with a solar panel?
What I would suggest is that you find a panel that is rated for 00 mA, at any voltage higher than 8 volts. A 2 or even 8-volt panel will do, because the voltage will drop to match the battery. Then I would get a diode to put in series with the panel to prevent the battery from discharging through the panel at night. That's called a blocking diode. At such low currents, a charge controller is not worth it. There is not enough power to overheat the battery, which is principally what a charge controller protects against in a larger system. Be aware that you could also simply plug a trickle charger for the battery into the wall outlet, at a cost of less than a penny a day in electricity.
Q:How to mount solar panel to car.?
In whichever car I'm not using much, I plug in a small solar panel to the cigar lighter socket, and simply place it up on the dashboard. So long as it gets daylight, it's working, it doesn't need full, direct sun. I just slip it between the transmission-tunnel and passenger seat when I get in, and my cars start right on the first turn of the key. It only delivers a very low level of charge, but it's STILL a net-gain, rather than the battery slowly getting a little tired - even the clock in the car, and the armed alarm-system takes SOME current to run, but even the smallest of panels will sort this out for you.

Your 5W solar panel has to put out about 5 volts or higher to charge a 2 volt battery. 5 watts at 5 volts is only 0.3 amps, which is only enough to handle the internal leakage inside a large battery, plus a bit. If you have a 00 amp-hour battery, that panel would take 300 hours of bright sunlight to charge it. But I do agree that it will keep the truck battery charged as long as it gets sun. Make sure you put a diode in series between the panel and the battery to prevent the battery from discharging through the panel when the sun goes behind a cloud. I'd be worried that if you charged the 8 volt battery frequently, the panel would not be able to replace the lost charge, and your 2 volt battery would wind up discharged. That 8 volt battery is .2 amp-hrs (if I got the correct one). That is 27 watt-hours. Allowing for losses, you car battery will have to deliver over 30 watt hours to charge it. Your solar panel will take over 6 hours of bright sun to make up that difference. That is over 24 hours this time of year. So if you recharged it more than once every 2 days, you will lose charge in the truck battery. .
