Q:This is for my science project and i cannot figure it outWe assumed that blue light shining on a solar panel would give off the higher volt reading because it has the shortest wavelength and the highest energy, but it was actually the lowest. Why does this happen? Im very confused And cant find the answer anywhere.... ,thank you!!
Likely there will be at least a small change in the no load volts. The short circuit current will be different and the watts output will be different. Connect an amp- meter to the panel with or without a to 00 ohm resistor in series with the amp-meter and you will see different amounts of current for different colors. You do however need to adjust for the amount of light falling on your solar panel. Possibly you can use a exposure meter or a bolo meter as reference. Neil
Q:Thinking about getting a solar panel installed but i'm worried about getting the govt. rebates. There is a Federal Tax credit and a State of Florida rebate and i'm wondering what the time frame is for getting the rebates. Has anyone gotten a solar panel installed recently that could give me more info. Thanks!
In case you hadn't heard the state is broke.
Q:Can solar panels be used for powering an airport or transportation hub?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power an airport or transportation hub. Solar energy is a clean and renewable source of power that can be harnessed to generate electricity. By installing solar panels on rooftops, parking lots, or even dedicated solar farms, airports and transportation hubs can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and reliance on traditional energy sources.
Q:Is there any way to charge my laptop with a solar panel? Is there any panel like that. Or if I work on panels can I do something like that. If you know anything about it, can you just help me? Thanks a lot.
A solar panel is usually 36 cells and intended to charge a 2V lead acid battery. The battery in laptops may be somewhere between 5 and 20V. The panel might charge a laptop when it is cold, but they heat up in the sun and then it would no longer charge. Typical lap top power supplies are 3 to 4 amps. You need 2 panels in series to get enough voltage to charge the battery directly, but this is wasteful. If you want to charge at the same rate as a lap top power supply you need large panels to provide 5 amps. The 5 Amp panel will only give 5A when pointed directly at the full sun. There may be between 2 and 5 hours a day equivalent full sun depending where you are, time of year. If you want more than that, you need larger panels, or more than one in parallel for a 2V system. It makes sense to charge a 2V battery with the solar panel, and use that to operate the lap top with a car type power supply for a laptop, which runs from a 2V battery (see link below for an example). Get the biggest panel you can afford, and the battery should be larger if you want to run the lap top when the sun isn't shining. Perhaps a 20AH battery is a minimum size. All this costs more than a lap top.
Q:Well, I am looking for a cheap way on building a solar panel, instead of buying by the manufacturing stores. I would like to stay in the budget up to ,000 dollars. I want to have Solar Energy for my house because the sun is always shining. Is there a way I can make the Light power some of my house? What would I need? How much time would it take?Where can I get the items I need?
there is a website that sells a book for $40 thattells you how to do it cheaply check it out just google earth4energy
Q:Could you throw some long scientific words in with your answer so I can impress my teacher, I'm looking to expand my scientific vocab. Thanks
Solar panels are a generic term for any type of solar collecting panel. There are two major types: Photovoltaic uses substances that turn the incoming radiation directly into electricity. Usually you have to have direct sunlight (no clouds) for this to work well. Solar thermal is also used in a lot of areas. Here the radiation is used to heat a circulating fluid (often water directly), and then that is either used directly, or it's used for heat exchange with a heat pump or a boiler system. Solar thermal can collect significant heat even on a cloudy day. So a solar panel could be made of photovoltaic panels, but it doesn't have to be.
Q:Can someone explain to me how solar panels can be used as modern architectural attributes? please help
You could check out building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). BIPV includes things like solar roof tiles and smart energy glass that acts as a window and also creates electricity. BIPV is a great way for people to go solar without disrupting the modern architectural attributes of an existing structure.
Q:Im looking at making a self build iPad solar panel charger, Is it possible to get a small solar panel, a battery to hold charge and then a USB output? nothing fancy, just power in and power out?
Sure it is possible. There are even commercial products that do that. I have a solar cell phone charger. But it is not able to fully charge the phone battery. I am not sure why but I suspect the voltage it puts out is too low. In other words, it is a poor design. It is certainly possible to make a better design, but maybe not easy. You can damage a battery by over charging it, so just increasing the voltage is not the solution. You need just the right voltage and current.
Q:if i was to put a solar panel (sp) just outside of the earths atmosphere ans another solar panel (sp2) 0km away towards the sun. which one would generate more power (sp or sp2)? and how much more? is there a ratio to work out the power output and distance from the sun? would the 0km distance between the panels make a large difference in power output?many thanks in advance
You do realize that the sun is 50 million km away don't you?
Q:Was at home depot today and a Solar City sales man came up to me, offering me free solar panels. He said he could install them on my garage for free, free installation, free panels. Promised me it wouldn't cost me a dime. This is obviously appealing to someone like me who has a $200.00 monthly electrical bill. Now my question is this. Is this a scam? Are there ANY hidden fees or things I should be weary of?- I understand I may not save tons of money, but if I can save even something as low as $20 a month I would be happy. I live in a sunny area and they seem very interested in my garage roof. Any information would be super-helpful, thank you.
