- Likely there will be at least a small change in the no load volts. The short circuit current will be different and the watts output will be different. Connect an amp- meter to the panel with or without a to 00 ohm resistor in series with the amp-meter and you will see different amounts of current for different colors. You do however need to adjust for the amount of light falling on your solar panel. Possibly you can use a exposure meter or a bolo meter as reference. Neil

- Two things on a regulator: a) It will optimize the charge to the batteries - and thereby distribute the most possible power to your active circuits during the day. b) It will prevent the power from the panels from boiling (no kidding) the batteries - no small thing as they are the second largest investment you have after the panels themselves. This is much more critical if you have sealed or Zero-Maintenance batteries. I strongly suggest that you get a regulator as it will significantly lengthen battery life. Follow the directions on the regulator for optimum input voltage and it will let you know whether all the panels should be in series, parallel or series/parallel. But cutting to the chase, you can certainly gang up panels as needed.

If you turn on the oven, the dryer, the iron, a bunch of lights, and the TV, you are going to shut the system right down. You should not count on running everything with solar cells, but the most critical circuits. And you are lucky to have 25% of a day in optimum solar alignment for photocells. You need to think outside the Al Gore crazy box. Our modern way of life requires a lot of power! If you switched to coal or wood for cooking and heating and ironing, sunshine for drying clothes, heating the hot water heater, and for daytime lighting, then you could use the photocells for some lighting and the washing machine and anything electronic. You might stand a chance.
